Default Texas Title & Registration

I just tried to title my new Backdraft at the Harris County Tax Assessor's office (Clay & Hwy 6 in Houston). I had what I thought was all my paperwork (Title app., bill of sale, pictures, MSO, green sheet inspection, tracing of VIN). Long story short I did not get a title. They said I would have to fill out a 68A form and 61 form. I have to have a police officer come out and inspect the VIN #'s on the car to make sure the engine and car were not stolen and then take all the paperwork to TXDOT and get a new VIN# assigned and then go back to the Assessor's office. I know a lot of you have gotten tiltles in Houston. Where did you go (office and location) and what paperwork did you have. I would appreciate any of the peoples names that helped you. I would like to say the people at the tax office were nice but did not know exactly what to do. As such, they called TXDOT and that is where the extra work is coming into play

Thanks.

Dave

Dave, I hate to hear of the hassle as it takes the fun out of the new purchase. When I tagged mine the first clerk didn't have a clue and tried to send me to another office. When they figured out I wasn't leaving another clerk came over and took care of everything registering it as a 65 in 2 minutes. She even gave me a sheet and told me to get personal plates for the car which I did. It all depends on who waits on you. Good Luck.

Todd.

I do not know if you remember me but I met you in Dallas when they were working on your car. Where did you go and who did you talk to and what documents did you have with you? Did you use your original VIN#?
