I've watched Gumball since I was about 12 I think, it was on at least once a year on TV before VCRs were common and then about 100 times since then. My first at-speed ride in a 'real' Cobra immediately took me back to the scenes that Hal mentioned, the view out the windscreen over the driver's shoulders was EXACTLY correct and put chills up my spine.
Gumball is definitely one movie that needs to be on DVD, with lots of extras please! Mike |
Lane, i just might do that sat, depending on what my son's plans are for the weekend, he may want to run down to atlanta to check out a Porsche place.

Does anyone remeber a TV show that featured a Cobra as the detectives ride? I have not done a web search yet, but for some reason the name "Houston Nights" comes to mind. I think the main character in the show was the main character in the movie "Warriors".

Honey West Detective series.........

Sorry, that was "Houston Knights" and it was Michael Beck, but I could not find any reference to a Cobra.

A few years back, I was sitting around watching Nick at Nite, and an old episode of "The Monkees" came on. The bad guy character in this particular episode was some goofy German soldier, and he drove a Cobra Daytona Coupe with a big Iron Cross on the doors.
Of course, there's a chase scene between the Cobra and a Monkee driving that behemouth of a vehicle, The Monkeemobile. The two cars are racing on this tight, twisty road, but for some reason, they felt the need to cheesily speed up the film. Low and behold, the 6,000lb Monkeemobile beats the '65 World Champ. Ah, Hollywood. Russ |
I watched Blow last night which features a one time only shot of a black Cobra and a brittany blue 67 GT-500 in Johnny Depp's driveway.

There was a series called 'Cobra' with the guy from the American Ninja movies in the mid 90's.
Gumball Rally is the best Cobra movie. |
How about Romancing the Stone, with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. A young boy steals a red cobra and drives away. He had blocks of wood on the pedals if I remember correctly!

Viva Las Vegas - Elvis races against lots of them in a little go-cart and of course Elvis wins.

I mentioned Hollywood Knights but my vote for the ultimate Cobra flick has to go with Gumball Rally for sure. I'm always amazed that so few people know about this movie & get it confused with the Cannonball stuff. Totallty different league! My favorite part is when the Cobra & Ferarri leave the gas station together toward the end and the Cobra authoritively blows past the Ferarri with a WAAA- WAAA! Who believes like me, that Ferarri went into the channel during the dry lake scene? They cut away just as it approaches the channel. You know what I'm watching tonight!
I entered my Cobra in a rally this summer from NYC to Atlantic City- can't wait to tear thru the tunnel....I'm just afraid the authorities might mistake me for a terrorist with my open pipes echoing thru there. |

If I remember right(haven`t seen it in about 15 years!) there was plenty of Cobra & `Vette action in the original Herbie film (was that one called "The Love Bug"?) Herbie was obviously a 1500 Beetle, no way would the 1200 have blown off those Cob`s & Vettes!!!!!!
Gumball is definitely my fave though......I`m desperately trying to get hold of a good VHS (PAL, for UK) copy but the prices! I`m not paying $40-50 for a 70`s ex-rental! Favourite sequence is the 'self-repairing' Cobra getting off the Freeway, into the River & out again. AND of course, Raul`s(Franco) chat up technique:(insert italian accent here!) Hello. You drivea all nighta? Yes. Alonea? Yes. You likea me? Yes. Then it`s VaVaVaVaVRRRROOOMM, in the hotel room, with the TagHeuer timer on the cabinet! So Cool. |
"Whats-a behind me is not importante..." I always wondered if the rear view mirror actually hits the Cobra behind him when Franco threw it over his shoulder. If it did, I would hope there was a deleted scene somewhere of Bannon getting out of his Cobra & feeding the mirror to the 'italian flash'....

Gumball Ralley is a classic. I don't think they could have picked a better person than Raul Julia to play the Italian role.... It seemed to come very natural to him. :LOL Would like to see the outtakes from that movie all the "real racin" in the spillways. For once they don't need any hollywood magic to create that just drive the SOB! :3DSMILE:
I think I'll have to go home and watch it again tonight. J.A. |
Gumball classic lines:
"She wants-a me, I cannota deny her!" :D -Raul Julia It's really an elegant design" -guy trying to start the Jag. "That's the ugliest car I've ever seen. It looks like a jukebox with wheels." -about the T-bucket Mike |
"It's gonna be a nice day"- NYC cop
|
...On why the Jag-wahr won`t start.( we say "Jag-you-are" over here!)
Maybe it`s humidity...? ... ENGLAND is humid! And how many takes did they need to get the lift doors to shut JUST as Franco finished singing? :D :D Slightly off-topic, Is it true that the Studio gave Sly Stallone a 289 & 427 as a 'bonus' for the film "Cobra" ? |
2FAST 2 FURIOUS. But it's hardly worth sitting through to get to the Shell Valley Cobra at the end. Rent the DVD and 2fast forward. There is a fun bonus feature on the DVD about the cars used in the film.
