I got an e-mail from the REAL account holder at e-bay. Sure enough he was letting everyone know his ID had been stolen. They even got his Yahoo password and screwed up his e-mail.

The two above links have been removed by e-bay. I put in a fraud report VERY shortly after reading the first post here.

Default How Many Scams?

The only cars I watch on eBay are Cobras but it appears that these scams are all over their site. Anyone care of quess what % of eBay car auctions are scams.

Seems about 1 out of 20 Cobra auctions are pulled. Do they target cars where guys may be a bit emotional about the decision and ignore their good sense?

How did they get his E-Bay account password? I would guess same way they got the Yahoo password.

Perhaps he responded to some "inquiry" that looked official and he gave it all away be responding? Beats me how this stuff happens!

They stole the accounts and passwords from people who, trustingly, responded to a wave of scam e-mails, over the last 6 months, that looked like legitimate e-bay communications....logo and everything.

These e-mails provided a link that asked people to "VERIFY THEIR ACCOUNT INFO" including passwords, SSN's, credit card numbers, etc. E-bay continuously warns people that they will NEVER, EVER, EVER, ask for that type of info. in an e-mail. Yet, people keep falling for it.

Anyone who did that, not only had their e-bay account hijacked, they may have be in a world of other hurt due to identify theft. So, these scammers have been purchasing this info from a larger and more dangerous ring of thieves.

I know it's fun to play with them sometimes, but e-mail them at your own peril.

Simple...bogus e-mails sent to eBay users by scammers. Some look really amateurish... some are quite official looking.

Most have a hotlink that brings you to a page that asks you to fill out a form with ALL your info. Apparently, some people actually do it.

For your protection... here are three real-live samples of these fish-hooks:
