Best mini starter?

Hi guys,
I purchased a custom built oil pan on e-bay that requires a "mini starter". Question: who sells the best one for the money? Good or bad experiances please? Thanks for the help! Its for a SBF.

We have been very happy with McLeod and their parts. Tilton seems expensive and more interesting to deal with.

MeLeod has just been too nice over the years without problems. GREAT company to deal with.

Ted, I purchased a tilton and wish now i hadnt. I was sold on the many indexing positions after i installed it i found that not all of the index holes line up when i found a position that would work only one of the 3 mounting bolts (2 on the outside of the starter and 1 on the inside ) lined up so i called tilton , they said ya no big deal just drill and tap the others . im not sure if im the only one that this has happend to but from the response on the phone i wouldnt bet on it . The choice is yours

Hitachi is the most common motor used for these and is often "Cloned" in design. As far as I recall the one used was originally for the 6 cyl 260 & 280 Datsun Z. It has a gear reduction and is about 1.6 HP plenty for all but the highest compression small blocks.

This is the "Type" that works well. Make sure this is the correct part number for your application though. Tooth count on flywheel and other items impact actual application but this is what they look like.
