Here's a shot with the hood closed. You can see there isn't much foam exposed above the side braces. I would love to put this on a dyno but there just aren't any in my area.

Arctic Snake,
Have you done high altitude hypersonic testing? With the speeds I can attain in my car this info is critical. I don't want to skip off the atmosphere upon re-entry........again.

Arctic Snake, looks very similar to what I did, but I used a 9" with an X-Stream top (which has no steel plate by the way). Anyway I noticed a difference right away between pan/no pan.

They use this foam to seal scoops on pro stock cars, I don't think it will take much hurt on our cars. There isn't much ram air effect on these short scoops anyway.

The Eddy Pro Flo filters have no metal plate and I can say they don't last very long if you have a flame up through the carb. And you get some pretty big flames with two plug wires transposed on the distributor cap.

I spent about $13 for the sheet aluminum and $20 for the foam and contact cement to stick it on with.

A/S
read your response concerning fabrication. went to K&N site but could not locate anything that looked like the base, nor the foam. also, what is the filter number? i really like what you did here and want to try to replicate if possible. could you please post some part numbers or a web site.

thanks in advance

Hi Outlaw'
The filter is # 33-2121-1. I will have to find the universal carb tray and foam part #'s and get back to you. I recently purchased the foam but the carb tray has been around for a few years. I am not to good at keeping records. Everything else was purchased locally at a hardware store. Here is a shot with the filter removed. If you want more pictures or have questions you can E-mail me @ kdao@gci.net. My name is Dale. Have fun with the project.
