Default Dual roll bars - form or function?

Just curious. For those who have dual roll bars - did you get them for looks or for extra protection? For those who got them for extra protection, have you ever heard of anyone actually being saved by the extra bar?

Well, I know of at least 2 drivers who have been saved by their roll bar, so why not the passenger?

My second bar is not only to protect my passengers, but to qualify to drive on track days at my local tracks and to meet SCCA requirements.

I have two, but I also like the look of two compared to one. I also wanted one for the passenger for safey, even if it's extremely unlikely it would ever be needed...

I got it for saftey most of all, but now I have had a lot people tell me that it "balances" out the cars look.

Do most local tracks require dual bars?

Which SCCA class do you run your car in?

It's not too late for me to add another hoop.

Thanks,

Brian

I would like it also depends on what it is attached to. If it is also attached to the frame, then the function is there too and certainly a safer option.

No roll bar for her no Cobra. Now I like the looks better than one. It looks more balanced IMHO.

[fire suit on]Damn...some of you guys need to grow some cajones and tell your better halves that it's gonna be your way or the highway when it comes to cars, hobbies, etc. Just my stupid opinion, which isn't even worth $0.02 on the open market. Sorry for being offensive, but I'm having difficulty handling this view of a bunch of gearheads (a compliment, by the way!) on a public forum bowing to the wives on some things regarding our precious little roadsters. It's just a matter of picking my battles. I did win the war. I have a Cobra, and didn't cost me a new kitchen, jewelry, or any other expensive girly thing.

Shoot, mine has NO roll bars and I painted it BRG over her objections.

For anyone wanting to see some REAL ones I have pictures.

Which one of my wives do you want me to tell that to...

***The first "X" one who actually put me on a racing budget?

***The second "X" one who griped every race weekend, show weekend or cruise weekend?

***Or the one I'm now married to who I think is the best thing that ever entered my life?

Ivan

After considerable thought, I'm thinking the third one. I figure that you have to break her in at some point. The other two just never understood you.

Alright, back on topic or Brian is going to drive by my house at 3am with a wake-up call from his 496CI FE.

Reality check here.

I flipped mine several years ago during a driving lesson. At over the ton on turn three, Summit Point.

There's no doubt the two roll bars saved our sorry arses.

Hope none of you ever need them....
