Isn't an SB100 required for a Superformance?

Yep, it sure is. Welcome to the wonderful wait for your SB100 number. I'll be at DMV Jan 2 of '08 too.

Not if it has an engine that passes the sniff and visual test for the year of the block.......SB100 is a smog exemption only not a registration procedure, either way it will have to be be REGed as an SPCNS.

Yes. SB 100 will be required. However, right now I'm just hoping for a TOP to get me through the summer.

Less generous!
I've read DMV is being less generous with temps this year. It might be a little more difficult than in the past.
Good luck

AXVC,
"Ready for battle" is exactly the wrong attitude. You will want to be your most charming, friendly, positive, self while dealing with the DMV. You really need to develop a friend there who can help you keep that puppy on the road. I registered my car as a "Specialty Constructed Vehicle" first. Then went back under SB1578 (same as SB100 for already registered cars) to re-register as a 1965 Cobra. I would make an appointment and have a friendly talk about all the hoops and hurdles that are necessary to get through the process. And be happy about it! At least, until you get outside when you can scream and kick the building.....

Congratulations on the new car! I asked about a temporary permit for my car here in NJ, and they just laughed. At least you got a one day pass. Until I pass, I have to be content trying to keep a low profile in a high profile car without getting caught.

What engine?
What engine do you have? That will determine a lot!
I've heard people had good luck at the Folsom DMV, & I had very good service at the Carmichael DMV.
Good Luck

Sounds as if the line up on January 1 will be long...
What is/are your thoughts on being successful in gaining registration? Is it a lotto?

From what I have heard the SB100 numbers are gone by the end of the first business day, of the new year. But, I have also heard that most, if not all, people that show up before the DMV office opens... and has everything ready.... end up getting a number.

More like an Oklahoma land race!
The much coveted 500ea SB100 numbers for this year, were gone by noon.
And like Powershift said, get there very early on Jan 2nd with all paperwork filled-out and ready to go.
Doors open at 8:00am, don't be late!
The thing that makes it even more of a gamble is, from every DMV office in California, there is a DMV clerk trying to call Sacramento for an SB100 number, simultaneously!
jdog
P.S. I didn't sleep very well the last few nights of 2006, just thinking about it!

When I went to the DMV 2 weeks ago she gave me a 90 day TOP.. I told her I had a 69 engine in it, which I do, and that I wanted to go to the BAR and that the CHP office near me had a 2 month waiting list for appts, which they do. She was more than willing to accomodate me with a TOP. So now I can use that to drive and tweak it before I go to the CHP and the BAR. Just be sweet to the woman behind the desk and it goes a long way. The Fairfield DMV is really easy to deal with too..
