exhausting the garage
My wife complains that every time I am out in the garage with the cobra running the smell creeps into the house. Any suggestions how I can blow the smell out the garage door?

Exhaust venting
Depending how serious you are about this, Harvey Exhaust makes a small two-bay ventilator with two flex hoses that could be connected to each pipe.
Go to their website http://www.harveyexhaust.com and look at the Two Bay system. It will run off 110v but will cost you some $$$ Typical street price is going to be around a grand

I always back my car out a bit till the pipes are outside. I still have to open my side door to get a cross wind.

You could put a couple of 20-24" box fans in the garage facing the garage door in front of your Cobra and turn them on before starting. After you open all doors of course. That could be a starting point to try before spending a lot of cash on an exhaust system. Although that exhaust system would be nice.

Door open with a 24" pedestal fan at the front of the radiator keeps the engine cool and blows through under the body and out....

I noticed this in the short time my car was at my house (back for completion now) and wow, it smells all the time, even if not running. In fact, it took two days for the garage smell to go back to normal. . . . I couldn't believe it.
I plan on intalling a through the wall exhaust fan and let it run a lot. And pull the car completely out of the garage before starting it.
However, I think the smell will always be there. . . . think about it, the gas and oil are all open to the environment and there are no emmessions on the exhaust. New cars are all sealed, we forget how things have changed. . . .
Anyway, it's "par for the course". . . |

Mine really smelled bad when I first built it as it was too rich. After re-jetting the carb the smell wasn't nearly as bad. I always open both doors before starting it or else I back it out of the garage as soon as it fires up.
My wife loves the Cobra but she will make a comment about the smell getting in the house, from time to time.

Some dryer vent hose out the door will help, the $1000 vent box would be nice.
(and why are you *often* running the cobra in a garage? in california? with the doors shut?)
You don't say if you have windows in the garage, but the smell will linger after the car is shut down, so you might look into exhaust fan(s) that mount in windows. They make them to fit a pane, or to fit into glass blocks. Put them on timers tied into your garage door light maybe. Again, not knowing your architectural restraints, if a window fan(s) aren't doable, then powered roof vents (as long as they don't exhaust near upstairs windows or waft over a frequently used patio.
The obvious best solution would be a separate garage.

I went to NAPA and ordered two of the 5" diameter rubber exhaust tubes that you slip on and fasten with a radiator clamp. Works great for me and I have been using them for about 5 years during the Winter when it is to cold or raining to pull the car outside. Mine are 11' long but you can connect them together if you want and no rubber comes off on the exhaust at all.

If you want the part number I can get it. They are expensive as it was $166 for one 11" tube. The smaller diameter ones aren't quite that bad.
