Default Erson Roller Rocker Adjustment Question

Neither the little 7/32" hex locknut in the middle, nor the the larger 5/8" adjusting nut, will budge using all the hand strength I can muster. Before I break out a larger tool, is there anything unusual about the Erson roller rockers that I should know about? That little 7/32" hex locknut in the middle essentially just "clicks" on and off to lock the adjustment, correct? And just how much torque should be on it? Here's a shot:

Use a longer wrench. Just break loose the nut. The hex thing in the middle is the adjuster...it's what contacts the pushrod cup. That's how you adjust your lash. You run that middle hex adjuster down till you get the lash you want, then you tighten the nut with the wrench.

Just use a longer wrench...or take a dead blow and tap the end of the wrench that's on it now.

What is that black $hit laying there????
That can't be engine oil. Not after spending all that money on the engine you would not let the oil get that bad would you?
Oil is VERY cheap compared to the engine costs, do not spare the fresh oil.

Of course not. That oil only has about 700 miles on it. It has a healthy addition of GM Camshaft & Lifter Prelube added to it to bring the ZDDP percentage up to .12% -- that changes the color of the oil. But have no fear, I have my oil regularly analyzed by Blackstone Labs.

Whew!!!
I am relieved to hear that. ( not that my opinion matters )
I often read here about guys who try to stretch their oil changes as if they were putting a gazillion miles a year on their cars, glad to see this is not so in this case.

Patrick, after this adjustment you can go for some time with out adjusting again. I did mine at around 700-800 miles. I now have over 10,000 miles and they are still with in spec. , and that's with a flat tapet cam. I also went to Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30 at that adjustment.
Great rockers.

Speaking of wrenches, once I cracked the seemingly excessive torque that was on the locknut this little wrench set made adjusting them a reasonably quick job. Had I been able to find my bump switch it would have been even quicker. If these Erson's do indeed hold their lash the way everyone says they do I can't see why anyone would go with hydraulics. I'll check them again in the Spring and see.
