Default Fuel Gauge Question

Does anyone happen to know that the ohm ratings are for the Smiths fuel gauge is? I have fuel cell and I want to get the gauge working. The guy I took it to said the ohn ratings do not match the ATL sending unit. The sending unit is 240/33. I know I can get an Autometer with those specs but I would like to keep it Smiths if pssible. I cant seem to find the specs anywhere.

They are available in 3 ranges:

0 - 90 Ohm
16 - 158 "
240 - 33 "

Of course, the gauge must match the sending unit.

I have a Smiths fuel gauge that shows 1/8 full when totally full and 5/8 full when empty. Any quick fix? Is this British thing? Rich

Rich if you can get under the car look at the fuel tank sender. You may have an ouside adjustment screw or two for the fuel level.

Thanks, Sal. The beast is now getting a little engine work done in Monterey, but I will visit it next week to help out, and will see if I can locate any adjusting screws. I just figured this was another example of British electrics, like my genuine Lucas light switch: dim, flicker and off. Rich

Rich,

My guess is that you've got a 0 - 90 Ohm sender with a 240 - 33 ohm gage, or vice-versa. What does the gage do when you ground out the wire that goes to the sender?

I will try grounding the wire when am looking for the adjusting screws, and see what happens. Thanks, Rich.

In a Cobra the fuel gage is a mis-information device especially with a fuel cell. I'll never trust one. Note the miles when you fill the tank and figure 10 mpg untill you get a handle on fuel consumption.
