Default Water Temp in my 302 Cobra ?

I have a 302 automatic from a 74' Mustang in my FFR Cobra. The temp with the fan on gets to around 200 - 210 ? Is that normal, or is it running hot. Worried about taking it too far from home because of overheating (although its not happened yet). Any suggestions? Thanks, JC

More info please. Does it overheat while you're driving down the highway? How about in colder weather? What temp thermostat are you running (180, 195)? I would run at least 50/50 antifreeze to avoid a boilover.

Everyone has given you good suggestions. My 302 FI HO 5 speed runs @ 90 (or slightly less on a Smiths gauge) degrees C almost all the time. fan runs in traffic, on road who knows with noise. Are you refilling overflow bottle? Has car actually overheated? Clean and flush radiator since you got it? Changed coolant or mixed coolants (a no no)? Are hoses correct (the one off the top block will collapse if not a formed hose). Check pressure (operating temp as well as ability to hold pressure) cap on rad hose and if you do have a collant bottle, check that one as well.
All that said, get AAA RV road service agreement..gets you home on a flat bed with 100 miles...great peace of mind.

What are you using to determine the temperature. Dash gauges are almost always 10-20 degrees off. Sometimes more. You may have a gauge problem instead of an overheating problem.
