High Vibration Coil
You are running the High Vibration Blaster Coil PN 8222 and not one of their oil filled units right? The literature suggests that the MSD oil filled coils should not be mounted sideways (thus my previous post was not entirely correct ). Evidently in the oil filled units there is a small air bubble at the top of the coil. That air bubble can move over the windings and expose them. That causes them to short internally.
I am using an MSD-8200, which is oil filled. I just pulled the installation instructions and found the section on mounting orientation. It does look like mine should be mounted vertically. So to eliminate one possibility, I'll either find a way to vertically mount the coil or buy an 8222.

Rick-
If you have the edelbrock cylinder heads, there is a bolt hole on the front of the driver's side cylinder head- mount the coil bracket to that hole and you will be good to go.
