Default Fia Color Choice For Resale??

As many know from previous posts that I'm considering selling my car. I've had a lot of interest but it seems without the paint and small things to over come, some are nervous? I would think this would be the best time to buy as you can pick the right color, engine/tranny combo/ interior, etc.

Well anyway, the question is would you paint it the correct "Viking Blue" or go with red( F1 red, Guards, Ford red,etc.). Or in your humble opinions what would be the best color for resale?? I was going to paint it Red but if I'm putting it up for sale its someone else's preferences. I'm considering painting the car, Maybe! This seems an obstacle for a lot and really all the hard work has been done. Thanks for the input!! Matt.

I personally love the viking blue on an FIA, but then again, there aren't many colors that I don't like on an FIA.

Pick one of the original FIA's and copy it. (were they all Viking Blue?)
Color, numbers, etc. That would be what I would want if I were looking for one.

Matt. Have you listed the car on Cobra Country? I would think that would be a pretty effective way to market the car - as is - permitting a new buyer to choose their own color. There are a lot of 'FIA' cars purchased to be built replicating the 289 street cars (but include roll bars and side pipes). I see a lot of dark blues, burgundy, British Racing Green, and yes, some Viking Blue (which is a great color on an FIA). I would think Cobra Country would give you a good shot at selling a kit - with or without the motor. Good luck.RD

If an FIA came with a red I would paint it red. I think most people want a finished product but you can't go wrong with Viking blue.

No matter what color, some potential buyer will want another color. (ever know anyone to buy a house and not paint?) IMO, the same goes for drivetrain/motor choices.

There is a CSX FIA locally for sale, light blue. It if fantastic in person, but I feel doesn't have the "grab" of a darker blue.

I ended up buying a car because it was SO close to what I had been imagining for a long time.

I've just got to ask. How far along is the assembly of this car and how much are you thinking of asking for it?

BTW, I'm partial to BRG

As for the gallery, is something like this what people are looking for?
http://allthingscobra.tripod.com/blue_gallery.html
I have not checked to see if they have any other colors, but at least here is a bunch of different blues.
On a related note, I have seen a picture here in one of the galleries of a car with a black dash, but red seat, carpets, etc (may have been an original car) but did not bookmark it. That is the combo I was thinking of doing on my car and was wondering if someone could point me to it (or a similar one done that way) so I can see it again.
Thanks,
Jay

289ACE. Check out ERA's web site - go to the section "owners cars" and in the FIA cars you will see a couple of cars with black dash, red seats and door panels, black carpets, and a BRG car with all red interior. RD

Jay:
Not sure who's gallery that is, but it looks like there is an error. There are three #16 Cobras in the right column. I am honored to have been included, as the one on top is my car, and the paint codes below the image are correct for my color.

However, the two #16 Cobras below mine are actually the same car (the real #16 FIA - CSX2259 which belongs to Lynn Park), and it is listed as being both Viking Blue and Princess Blue. The angle of the photographs make the color appear different, but I assure you, it's the same vehicle. I am not sure which color is correct for his car, but I have seen it in person and can tell you that it is quite a bit different from mine. I thought someone told me once that his car was Princess Blue, but I have never seen a paint code for that.

As I understand it, there is no difference in the color Princess Blue and Viking Blue.

The name change was purely based on US male ego and testosterone. Who wants to tell their buddy that the bad a$$ Cobra they just bought is Princess Blue...

Here is a link to the Shelby/HST color codes and a jpeg example that shows each.

Shelby/HST color codes

IMHO... Princess Blue (HST Light Blue BC1360777L) is the way to go...

Since a cobra paint job can run from $3,000-$8,000 plus another $500 for a strip and yours can be sold with out paint and at a lot cheaper price before paint, and now the new owner gets to paint it his color choice and that might be the way to handle your dilemma.

I AGREE!!! This is really a perfect situation for someone that wants a FIA Cobra, I would think. I have found better prices on paint jobs and assembly but I just don't have the funds or time. To spend 8K for a paint job is crazy due to the fact these cars do get beat up from rocks-etc. I have figured out some different possibilities and maybe separating some things is the way to go? If I go through and paint it, it will probably end up red. My painter does a great job on a solid color. Thanks for the replies, Matt.
