Not to be arguementative, but the vin swapping can be done legally if it is supervised by law enforcement after proper application and the old car is destroyed and the new car would have a salvage title.
I think this is more a case of an insensitive owner doing an unsympathetic restoration on a basket case rust bucket that nobody would be interesting in
riding in let alone owning if it were not for the profit potential associated with the Shelby moniker. That said, I kind of like it. I bet it gets right on up there price wise near 50,000 USD, or it gets pulled before auction close.
Any other guesses ?

While I do have "some" knowledge of the laws regarding this in Louisiana, I'm not aware of any legal way to do a "VIN swap"....not saying it can't be legally done.....I do know that a car can legally be re-bodied if the donor car retains it's original VIN and the Shelby #'s/VIN can be added to the donor car, and it would be noted on the title...........

Agreed, I would not mind having that car, it would not take me very long to go to the DMV and La. State Police and secure a title for the car using the original Shelby/Ford VIN...
regardless of the poor state it's in, that car can be rebuilt, floor pans, rocker panels, quarter panels can be replaced, and Shelby specific items can be found and return the car to it's former glory and it would be an original Shelby GT 500.....

Johan, I'm with you, I think the car will indeed go for big bucks and someone with the time and expertise most likely will rebuild the car....I've seen a few Shelby's in just as bad or worse condition rebuilt and done the right way and you'd never know how bad the car was before the rebuild........they are all worth saving to me, I'd hate to see this car turned into a "parts car"........

I would guess at least 40k for the car.........considering what decent drivers are going for now-a-days..........

The smart buyer would buy the E-bay car, and then get law enforcement involved to retrieve the "real" title for him, whala an inexpensive "real" Shelby. Has any one made SAAC aware of this auction, them guys like to keep track of stuff like this.
