Default Can your cobra lift the front wheels off the ground?

OK Horsepower enthusiasts....
Can your cobra lift your front wheels off the ground? Pictures

Yes (and what a thrill)
No ( I need a jack)

I would imagine it is very difficult with the short wheelbase and 50/50ish weight distribution!

If my half-shafts didn't explode...and if I unbolted the front sway bar...and if I replaced the front coil-overs with a 90/10 drag shock...and if I mounted an engine motion-limiting bracket from the block to the frame (or installed solid motor mounts)...then, yeah, I think I could get a little daylight under the front wheels. Fresh clutch and blowproof bellhousing, so I know I'm good there. It would probably take a 4+ grand launch rpm to achieve this.

Mine did two years ago at Run and Gun with a set of Goodyear drag slicks and some fresh VHT on the track (turned 11.61). Not my best but not bad given the conditions of the track. I think there may be a picture in Kit Car mag.

If you use 10 1/2" wrinklewall slicks at 8 PSI, I bet 90% of us could!

Tru's front wheels are off the ground most of the time.

Who needs friends like these.

I am running a 43% to 57% front to rear and even with that, I just spin the rears. I think CobraEd is right, it is all in connecting up with the pavement.

I agree with you Tru. I'd bet that 50% of all Cobra's "could" lift the front wheels if they had enough rear gear and sticky slicks ....

BUT

virtually all would NOT make it down the 1/4 or 1/8 mile because they broke something in the rear end during the launch.

Hey Dan, What's the story behind the blue/white cobra climbing the retaining wall?

There was a long thread over at FFCOBRA debating about whether or not the picture was fake but it was real as the owner was named and I guess he made a little mistake coming out of the hole at the drag strip.

Default John Hieda

Hi,
That was John's cobra @ Mission raceway launching wheels up 2' on a low 10 second pass, he broke a wheelie bar and turned right and up and launched 25' into the air, barrelrolled it 3 times sideways on the cement barrier infront of windscreen and landed back on the track, uninjured thanks to the rollcage. However he did not survive in his personal car as a drunk girl killed him coming home one night
Perry.

I was expecting a happy ending. That is terrible news!!!! Go figure you are safer on the racetrack than on a public road!
