It's NOT an original GT 350.........A code Mustangs were 289, four barrel cars.........all GT 350's were K code cars....probably a repo Shelby tag......
If it were an original Shelby GT 350, it would be worth a lot more more than his asking price even in it's present condition....as is, that's a lot of $$$$ for a rusted out A code fastback........

For grins I made an inquiry about the VIN and I wanted a close up of the Shelby tag... Some of the repo's say 'Shelby America' rather than American.
Claims to be sold for $15K...

The serial # is 5T09AI8XXX. shelby tag is S5446
|
Also, in 65 they only made S562 (I think, I could be off a few) GT 350s.....the last one would be S562..........none were made with a 4 digit number after the S..... the S, stands for "street", there were 37 made with the R designation, that stood for "race"..........
Also, all cars that were shipped to the Shelby plant to be made into GT 350s were shipped from the San Jose plant and the VIN should have 5R in the first two digits, not 5T!!!!!!!!!!!
Clearly if someone paid 15k for this car, they paid way too much for an A code rust bucket fastback......the new owner will soon find out it is NOT an original Shelby.....if it was an original Shelby, it may have brought as much as 25k to 40k in it's present condition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Shelby tags were made by more than one repro company and may still be in production and it's very easy to get one and stamp whatever # you want on it....the only real way to tell is the Ford VIN, SAAC has all the Ford VINs that were used on the original Shelbys.............

If you look close at his tag pic, it's missing the "N".
In the seller's defense, he does state right away, that he THINKS it's a GT350. So that right there should tell any serious buyers that THEY need to do their homework before buying the car.

If he legitimately thinks it is a Shelby, you can bet he would have gone to the trouble to find out and it would be priced accordingly.

Sal,
That's what caught my eye too... not enough white fuzzy dots to spell out American.

The early Shelbys were all made in San Jose too, which would be a R code in the 2nd character, not T.

Map;
In 1966 I could see a C code car getting sent to Shelby by mistake, but it has been verified numerous times all 65 GT 350s were K code cars......SAAC has all the original VIN #s of all the 65 GT 350s, it's very easy to verify the VIN with SAAC on a 65........
There have been a number (a few) of GT 350s verified by SAAC over the years that have been rebodied, SAAC in the past has recognized them as a GT 350 but also noted in the reigistry that they are rebodied......
