				 Maui Cobra
This is my first post although I have been monitering CC for quite a while. Anyway, my brother-in-law and I were in the Maui Hard Rock when a red cobra drove by. That was all it took to get the fire burning inside again. I've been waiting on parts long enough to lose interest. (a little) Back to the garage now though. There's always something I can be working on. |

Down Front Street? Headed toward the hotel? A brave Cobra driver indeed. Of course, parking would be no trouble whatsoever |

Ditto here - I haven't seen any there but haven't been over in a while.
Front street traffic would be about as much fun as Waikiki on a busy
day - tired left leg and hot engine - for what?

I spend every Feb. on Maui and haven't seen one yet. With all the traffic on the island, it's kind of a waste to have a Cobra. I don't see where you would ever get to go over 45MPH. You would look good sitting in all that traffic though. |

Maui Karl. He owns Maui Surf and Sports in Kahalui. FFR MK III with a 2003Mustang GT 4.6 5 speed donor package. He sent me the complete wiring and PCM from the Mustang. We did a 38 lb wirediet, reprogramed the PCM to disable the PATS, secondardary O2s, EGR etc. The return package was 18 lbs completely assembled, cut to length for the cobra chassis. It takes about 30 minutes to plug it all in and VARROOM!

Since Hawaii closed the only race track on Oahu some months ago it's been a real problem getting up to speed with my Cobra. That would 100 mph in 8 seconds!
Stadium Drifting sessions I've been to as a spectator fail to live up to the standards of what we used to have at the race track. In fact it's SO boring and SO poorly run I won't be back.

Rumors of a new 1/8th mile drag strip and dirt circle track coming soon, I'm not excited. My car needs a full 1/4 mile to really unwind. Besides, I'm more of a road course driver anyway, and that aint gonna happen here for many years if ever again. |

Ah - the wonders of television! His Cobra is red but HPD is really
coming down on the street racers - anything over 80 mph and you are in
deep kim chee.

At aloha stadium their is no drifting allowed ! watching from the sideline was boring so i bought Barry Raff's cooper "S "(superlap series class champion)and had some fun. I was in 1st gear the whole time so it was not like reno fernley raceway during WSCB but it is a skill improver.Hope you Oahu cobra guys will come out and run in the future.

I was in Maui in late July and saw the red Cobra. It's a rental, on the main drag on the kaanapali side of Lahaina parked on the grass (they rent Harleys also). Please excuse in spelling errors.

Interesting Maui has a Cobra for rent, they used to do that here on Oahu but stopped several years ago. They used to rent ONLY Excaliburs as 'kit' replicas were not legal here until recently.
Aloha Stadium has sponsored several specific 'Drift Sessions', last I heard insurance had become a problem and future events may not be scheduled.

Check this web site for contact info. Tom Bryant would be a good place to start.http://www.formulahawaii.com/contacts.htm
There are several 'groups' pushing for some kind of track, some infighting among the various groups make the problem worse. I'm not involved with any of them at this point, to fragmented. SCCA hates the Drifters, dirt track guys could care less about anyone else, drag race guys don't need a road course, road course guys are super secret about their 'plans'. Whew, I'm buying a can of wax, screw 'em all.
When the track closed (land owner would not renew the lease) it got SO ugly the former lease holder burned down the track tower! Something about using a welding torch to 'dismantle' it, stuff happens, blah blah. Last edited by Excaliber; 08-22-2007 at 01:04 PM..
