Goodwood Revival 2007
My son and i had a marvellous time again at Goodwood, great atmosphere, friendly people and fantastic cars. Larry Miller sent over CSX2299 and the Willment Cobra Coupe. Racing them was Bill Murray and Sir John Whitmore in CSX2299 and Desire Wilson and Lyn St James in the Willment.
The Tourist Trophy was very exciting , we watched the race from Fordwater. Just watching Cobras , Ferraris ,Corvette Stingrays and Jaguars sliding round Madgwick corner was awesome. Sadly the race ended after forty five minutes as Martin Stretton had a heavy shunt in a Iso Bizzarini, i hear he got away with a broken elbow and bruises. I,ll post a few pictures now and some tomorrow. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/100_0265.jpg |

Thanks for the great photos. CSX2127 was Hal Keck's first Cobra purchased from Hellertown Ford in Penna. Ran at Sebring in the early 60's and was the highest place finish for an indepentant entry, think he placed 9th. then sold to make room for CSX3008. Where does it live now and do know who owns it?
Watching Goodwood on TV is exciting, can't imagin attending. |
Hi SS Cobra, the programme says CSX2127 was entered by Ludovic Caron and co driven with Stephane Sarrazin.
|
Wow, thanks for the report.
RE: project 212 . . . it is my belief that this was the inspiration for the Daytona coupes. Any thoughts???? thanks, |
Robs Cobra is COB 6042 which spent some time in California from the late 60s until 1989 when it came 'home' (it's an 'AC' Cobra - they do exist....) It was changed from RHD to LHD and then back! Robs did several years of club racing with it but it only comes out to play occassionally. Nice to see a proper road-going Cobra mixing it with all the 'specials' with their streamlined Le Mans hardtops and trick parts. No doubt he got lapped several times, but who cares - nice weekend for a drive!
I only went on the Friday (shame on me) and I saw the Bizzarini get a smack up the rear from a Corvette - the rear panel was stoved in but the Vette was hardly marked! Will sort through my photos... I was also introduced to Lyn St James and had a brief conversation with her (she was also down to drive a Vauxhall - don't ask...) Nice lady - any woman who races a Daytona is fine with me!! |
Thanks for the info Trevor, here`s your picture you took of the Biizarini.

Anyone know the TV schedule? I think is was on something other then Speed last year.
|
Looks like a fantastic time!
Is there a full length DVD available, that teaser was great! BTW: Is Goodwood always planned for the same date each year? |
Jeff
They make every Year a great DVD. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/ and the shop: http://www.goodwood.co.uk/shop/acatalog/index.html :) Greetings from Switzerland Walter |
The DVDs are worth buying even though they only give a small taste of what goes on. There is so much to see and do that three days is barely enough. Trouble is that when you go and spectate around the circuit, you miss all the action in the paddock area, and vice-versa! Just watching Spitfires fly over the airfield is enough.....
The event is usually held on the second or third weekend of September when it often clashed with other events held along the south coast, such as the Beaulieu Autojumble (the largest in Europe) or the Brighton Speed Trials just down the road (the oldest motor event still running). This year, the Revival was held on the first weekend - and were incredibly fortunate that it did not rain! A noteable achievement this year! |
Whoops!
I posted my Goodwood trip info under the history section! http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/shelby-racing-history/82070-goodwood-2007-cobras.html My Cobra photos are here and are marked as 'new': http://public.fotki.com/VRM/fordshelby/shelby-cobras/ Including a good set of 2299 (a Daytona Coupe) with the engine removed. Trevor, Paul, sorry I missed you guys - I should have posted a bit closer to the event to see if anyone was going. Steve |
