Here it is, with all the glitches, THE BEST car chase scene of all time! IMHO!

A decent 427 - not the worst, not the best, will go from zero to 100 mph and back down again to zero in less than 14 seconds. All thing considered, you can put together a pretty good argument that the 427 Cobra is the ultimate performance car, judged on any basis you want to name." interesting info...

The sounds emitted by the Mustang suggest a lot of double-clutching -- something that would not have been needed with a '68 Ford transmission. McQueen confirmed that the sweet racket of the car's engine and transmission were overdubbed recordings of a Ford GT40 driven at full tilt.

McQueen insisted on driving the Mustang during the carefully choreographed pursuit, but when he failed to make a turn after locking up his wheels he sealed the deal for pro driver Bud Ekins, who handled the Mustang during the jouncy maneuvers along San Francisco's famously hilly streets.

McQueen was talented in a car and on a bike, he rode in Triumphs international 6 day trial team (ISDT), and did all the driving in the Thomas crown affair, but his close friend ISDT and motorcross buddy Bud Ekins was in a different league; Ekins also did the barbwire border fence jump scenes in 'The Great Escape'.
Another old old film, but watch 'On any sunday' and you get a true feel for the demands of bike sport in the period, and also McQueens not inconsiderable talent.

For those who haven't seen the movie, the chase involves two Secret Service agents being chased by FBI agents. Neither knows who the other is.

Hey LMH, I hadn't seen that scene or that movie before. Pretty intense chase scene! I agree, it is a good one. I think I like the Bullit one the best because of the great cars, inspite of all the glitches. Thanks for the link to that great vid!
