Smile 427 So (nos)

Hi Guys,

Looking for a 427 Side Oiler iron block to put in a Kirkham that hasn't been bored. Prefer New Old Stock. A slight chance that it may go into a RCR-40 Mk.II but at almost 65 I think in a few years that it will be diffcicult for me getting in to and out of.

I would consider a short block but would have it magnafluxed and sonic tested before I bought. Any leads or thoughts?

Currently own a BDR #334 w/ a 351 W that dynoed at 375HP. Just a little "slow". Thanks for your input.

NOS will be hard to come by..could check ebay if you are really interested as I know one or two come up per year. You may also check with some engine builders, Keith Craft etc....as they may help you find one. Be prepared to pay 5 large if that is what you really want.

We have quite a few. Not sure we are ready to sell but I know that 5K will not buy one. Give us a call at 770-898-9360 - Southern Automotive.

NOS blocks come up pretty often on ebay. They usually sell in the 5k range.

Keep in mind that most of them are "service" blocks (over the counter replacement blocks, with the ribs on the side and usually no date coding). Also keep in mind that many original blocks have core shift issues, so you should sonic check the block after (or before) buying it. You might wind up sleeving an NOS block.

I would strongly suggest getting a Pond iron or aluminum block instead. The same money (about 5k) and a brand new block that has the proper shape and date coding to an original block. Paint it black and it'll look just like that 40 year old NOS block.

I think George Anderson still has one at his shop but I am not sure if 5K will buy it either but you never know. http://www.gessford.com/

Why not just get a new genesis block?

Just like the Kirkham he wants to put it in "looks like" an original Cobra. It's not an original car, so why does it need an original block, when an iron Pond or Genesis block will look the same when the motor is in the car, but be cheaper and be a new block with updated designs?

Just my veiw of course. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am anal about originality, but I would still much prefer a Pond or Genesis block over an original.

Default 427 Blocks

I have a new nos 427 side oiler block that I will sell for 5500.00 completely machined and ready to assemble. I also have Genesis blocks fully machined for 4250.00 that have been pressure checked, lined honed, honed with torque plates, square decked, oil galley modifications, lifter bores honed, cleaned, cam bearings installed, oil galley plugs installed and painted. This would also be done to the original nos block as well. I also have a 1968 427 side oiler block that is as cherry as I have evr had. never had a problem and never been apart till we dis-assembled it and cleaned everything. This block is 4500.00 fully machined and ready to assemble. Have 1963 427 center oiler block that is 4.250 bore and in great shape ready to go for 3500.00. we have the shelby and Pond aluminum blocks as well. Justg let us know if we caan help. Thanks, Keith
