I agree with what you say about 1st and 5th with the 4.1 rear. Zero to sixty dashes only need one gearchange which is nice and it will lope along nicely in between 65-75 mph in 5th. 'Ordinary' main road cruising in the 55-65 range might me a bit of a pain though, you'd be in 4th at around 3000 rpm all the time.

Default Motor power not match to gearing

Olddog Where is your cam power come in?? you want to be 500-750 rpm inside that power band. Sound like the motor is lugging along at highway speed. You forgot to take into the formula of resistance of the car and how much added HP is needed to push the car through the air. 3.73 min gearing is needed. If you could get a 3.90 gear this work be better. You would still get to use 1 and 5th gears alot more without quick shifts and motor lugging. You are not the first to under gear your car and will not be the last. Rick L.
