New Style Electric Fuel Pump Installed - Quiet
I have had three Holley Red, rotor and vane style, fuel pumps in my Cobra for 12K miles. None of the three ever stopped working completely but would fluctuate fuel pressure and the pump would sound very different at times so I always carried a spare because I did not want to be stranded. Plus the Holley Red pump is quite noisy. I could hear the whine even when the sidepipes were making their sweet noise. I have very limited room to mount a fuel pump so I needed to stay with a pump that was very similar in size and shape as the Holley Red!
I decided to change pymp styles so I purchased a new Holley Gerator style pump which is very close to the Red pump in shape and size. I installed it over the weekend, which turned out to be very painless because of the size similarity.
After the pump installation I turned the pump on before firing the engine and I could hear it but it is very, very, quiet. With a little wind noise outside I had to place my ear on the rollbar to make sure it was running! When I fired the engine there is now no pump noise at all. I just hope that the new pump maintains constant fuel pressure for a lot of miles!!
