Default Your opinion....

Just sold a never used item to another Cobra owner. This item has never been used and was still in the box in perfect condition. Took extra care in making sure this item was packed better than when I received it. Now the purchaser wants his money back saying the item is damaged. What would you do?

Have the buyer e-mail you a digital photograph of the damage. That's the only way you (and your conscience) can verify what is wrong with it and whether or not you may have overlooked that prior to shipping. Even the best packing won't keep some gorilla from hurtling your package in ways you never thought imaginable...that's why on bigger ticket items I always cough up and pay the insurance (just in case).

On the buyer's side, some people are really, really picky and will call out every minor defect. If the price of the item was reasonable to begin with, and minor imperfections are part of the component, then some level of balance must be achieved to start. If you don't believe the buyer is being truthful or reasonable regarding the purchase, then you need to confront them accordingly and tell them like it is.

Worst case is that the buyer hunts you down and kicks the crap out of you. Or if you feel like you were not entirely upfront with regard to condition, you offer him a spot discount on the purchase price, send him a check, and be on your way. $#it happens.

Good luck,

-Dean

Item was insured, Bubble wrap, styrofoam peanuts, newspaper, duct tape etc. The item was in excellent condition. The only way the item would be damaged is if someone dropped it. I know I didn't. Because I only had it out of the box 1 time and it remained in a climate control storage unit until I sold it. Made this person a great deal. I don't think he wants to try to kick my butt. That would be a mistake on his part. He refused to file a claim with the Brown truck people. I really feel he dropped this item and is trying to get me to eat it by sending him a refund for something that he had done.

I agree but, it is the shipper of the item that has to file the claim. Have him send you pics. of the item and the box it came in and YOU have to file the claim.

When the package was received by the purchaser, was it signed for or delivered with or without a notation of visible damage to the shipping carton, or is there concealed damage ?

UPS and FedEx drivers have the option of leaving packages w/o a signature

Don, I don't know. The purchaser said that the box didn't seem to be damaged. I took extra precaution in insulating the box. Like I said, the only way the damage as it was described to me had to be done by dropping the item in question. When I had this item, I held it for no more than five minutes to see if it would work on my car. I didn't like the look and decided to sell it. He got a heck of a deal for something that was never damaged or even put on a car. I probably could have asked for more. I cleaned the item before I packed it and I did not see any damage. What I think happened is the purchaser didn't like the look of the item on his car or he dropped it and damaged it and now is trying to get me to refund his money for something he did.
