It might be prudent, if you are not a FE gear head to purchase FE's at 390 prices unless via a Gessford, FE Specialists, Shelby, etc a source that lives and dies by their products. It will not be easy on the pocketbook however it is peice of mind.

It only stands to reason when the cost of a true 427 SO can exceed five figures some 390, 428 FE's become high dollar SO's by builders that are in it for the short term $$$.

Well I've found out today that this engine is a replica 427 or 428, again I'm quite ignorant when it comes to Fords. I actually took it to my local mechanic which is an engine builder and quite good too and he tore the engine down, worth the money I guess. But now I need to find out what a replica 427 Cobra Jet is worth, isnt that what they're called? Cobra Jet's or just Cobra?

No such thing as a 427 Cobra Jet.

A 428 Cobra Jet and there is a 429 Cobra jet and a 428 Super Cobra Jet

And none of them came in a Cobra.

What is the Bore and stroke.

427 and 390 have the same stroke one has a bigger bore you guess which one.

I do not think any Cobras came with cast iron intakes.

Sounds like your mechanic doesn't know FEs either.

Its a 390 that has been bored over to a 428. I said 427 or 428 because I couldnt remember what he said. The bore and stroke are: 4.132" x 3.98"
