That is really sad. He was a huge part of my childhood. Remember when he would jump all those tractortrailer trucks on a Harley and just crash into a ball of human flesh? I loved those little crank up toys from the 70's. Today these kids could do the same jump, higher and longer with a backflip heel kicker superman thrown in just for fun.
They will never have his style! They don't even wear capes!

Ditto what the other Dean said. Whether it was the posters hanging in my room, or the trash cans I jumped over in the front yard (cape and all), or the wheelies that I learned to ride around the block on my Schwinn, Evel was THE influence if you were growing up in the '70s. You didn't have to like him, but you always ended up respecting him.
He lived a hard life and deserved all that he got out of it. RIP, Evel. I'm sure God has a few canyons he wants you to check out...

He was an entertainer til then end i'm sure... I knew him for awhile as he was a big time golf fanatic down in Clearwater FL where i worked. He came up with his own line of golfclubs called D.A.R.E . I used to help him with fittings and assembly. He always had the youngest (wives/girlfriends?) with him and they had the largest rocks i'd ever seen on their fingers! I'm sure he had a Pleasurable life aside from the constant pain and aches he always complained of. He must have made alot of money for the pain killer companies out there. He was a down to earth guy from the little i knew of him and loved competition...

I really liked him and watched one of the last shows where they spent an hour talking to him and showing some of his collection of motorcycles and such. I really enjoyed the part where they asked him about all of his broken bones and he remarked that his doctor told him he had more stainless steel in him that bones. And he certainly was an entertainer and really enjoyed life even with the little bumps as he put it.

Ditto. The guy was larger than life and had a one of a kind personality. Like Dean, my brothers and I used to build ramps and jump our Stingray bikes over stuff...constantly running around with scraped up knees and elbows.
I always wanted to see him Evil jump. Closest I got was seeing Super Joe Einhorn jump 12 cars at the Cow Palace in SF in 1972. He missed the landing ramp by 20 feet and crashed into a wall...pretty nasty.

A legend and an American
Evel K. was a folk hero and legend. His motorcycle jumps on H.D.'s showed the special person it takes to pull this stunt off. No motorcross bike with 16" of travel, a stock bike with some beef up bracing. Alot of his jumps helped motorcycle stunt people learn to improve there equipment and pervent major accidents. He lived well and was a great entertainer of his times. The fountain jump will always be in my mind and the landing that would have killed anyone else. Even Gumby had to bow to him. Rest well and without pain E.K. Rick L.

Ever notice when they show his jumps on tv that its always the crashes and not the jumps he made successfully. Funny what they think people want to see!
