Default New Cobra inspired concept car

Hey fellow Cobra fans…

I just wanted to show you a project that I am working on. I am avid Cobra nut… and after I built my first one I got the bug in my head that I wanted to design and build my own Cobra inspired car. So I started from scratch and used a modified Cobra chassis to build my own prototype. So far the interest has been off the wall and I figured I would show you guys and see what you think of the design since this is the king of the cobra sites.

Now keep in mind I am not trying to replace the Cobra but rather come up with something that is totally new. I really wanted to combine a modern look with some old school styling. The Cobra was the primary inspiration for the car and the rest was just my imagination.

Well any way I have attached an image… you can check out my site for all the current build pictures.

Looks like a cross between a Cobra, Mustang, and a Vet.

I like it except for the wheels. I am not a fan of the BIG rim and low profile tire combo. JMO

... looks good- me likey! Can't really see the front end from that angle-just make sure the front end doesn't end up looking like a Pacer or a mid-70s Matador! (and I LIKE the wheel/tire combo... personal preference)

Slick61,
Go to his web site and there are different views of the car. The front looks a little funny. Looks like a Mustang with it's teeth knocked out. Maybe he is not finished with the grill yet. Or maybe he is. JMO
Like he says on his web site. Make any and all suggestions. He will welcome them.

Beautiful CGI work. Especially the images at the bottom with the headlights on. It still misses though, no spark like the Cobra in my opinion. A little too much Corvette Summer for my taste. Maybe tone it down a bit on the front with all the vents and flares and such.

Pretty neat. Looks more like a vette / camaro mix than a Cobra though (except for the sidepipes). And a bit of solstice

Looks great ! - lose the glass and think composite! Carbon fiber or Kevlar for the body saves a ton of weight.....

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great comments… I find that a lot of people see all these different cars in the design which is cool. It seems that most see corvette and mustang but in Europe they see BMW and DB9 go figure. So long as people don’t see something like Yugo or Pinto then I am ok. Although corvette summer is a little harsh. Trust me I don’t think Mark Hamill will be staring in this one.

Just to answer some questions…

It’s really a completely new design with some inspiration from the Cobra world. Keep in mind that the car is basically the same size as a cobra but wider and although it’s a small car it was specifically designed to fit tall people such as myself. I am 6’4” and about 230lbs… and one of the issues I have with my cobra is that my head is over the windshield. And most tall people I see in Cobras have their heads showing over the windshield. Kind of looks funny…

Also if you want to see more photos please go to my website I have hundreds there… www.BaileySpeed.com. There is a whole gallery with the build process.

I will not be changing the front end too much… although it’s a flat looking front end its really not. The rendered images and photos do not do the car justice as it looks a lot better in person. The front side vents are used to cool the front brakes and the radiator opening floods the radiator with air and the excess air will escaped over the hood through the snorkel holes. The rear of the car is fitted with an air diffuser to help with down force and the underneath of the car is completely flat and smooth.

The front side vents are used to escape hot air form the headers… like the Cobra… and the Rear vents are used to escape air from the rear tires and to help cool the brakes down.

Once I make a fiberglass body… I will also look into a Carbon fiber version as well. I am trying to keep this car affordable so that will have to be an option.

If you want to read more about the car I just had an article posted at www.autoblog.com.
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/26/b...to-concept-car

Well thanks for the comments and keep them coming…. And if you have any ideas for the interior I am all ears.

I saw the picture in kit car and issue or so ago and think it is a really sharp concept. Would like to see pictures of the prototype going together.

Looks awesome!!! I only wish I had the time/money to do something similar. I think you'll have a real winner when it's done. How much is this little ordeal costing you?

Good luck and keep it up!

Will Backdraft be making a roller kit replica of this car?

I like it but I think the nose is a little too loud for me. too busy. Also, if you bubble the top a littel more on the new camaro, very striking resemblance! Looks cool though! Lots of hard work in there I'm sure!

carbon fiber?? just how much less than 2200 lbs do you all think this can be......and still stay on the road??
pretty cool.........think you are on to something good......you will tone some areas......firm up others.....i am sure........but great thinking!! I really can't offer too many suggestions of my own....except...maybe keep thought wrapped around more 'rounded" edges...vs sharper....if and where you can!

"Corvette meets Viper", with a mustang kind of grill. Don't get "cobra" from it.

Interesting "edgy" and fun concept look. If you are are looking for feedback, when I look at this concept in roadster format, to me, it's almost more reminicent of a late 60s early 70s Corvette, with sharp lines added at the top of the front fenders and real quarters. Notably, you can see the snake eyes which looks even more like a Cobra than the original. However, when one thinks of what makes a 60s Cobra notable and fluid is the round nose and overly curvatious shape with no sharp edges anywhere.

QUESTION to ALL:
Why not make a modernized version of the real thing, shape and all? Not referring to any of the previous Ford or concepts listed on Clubcobra before over the last few years... (we've all seen those) but has ANYONE ever made up a modernized concept version of an original, using all the EXACT same shape and lines, but just making it a little wider and longer, with all the modern amenties and suspenstion of modern-day car... Why change perfection, and just make the obvious in a modern version? That's what I'd like to see, with a nice cammer V8, real sidepipes, and sound. If this was actually produced, with the right shape, using high quality engineering, parts, and construction, I bet it would see more press than the Viper or former V10 concept Cobra ever did. Hopefully, sooner or later, someone will see the obvious and just make it already. Geez

Ford, are you listening, it's a no-brainer?
