The CSX 7000 car was fiberglass. I checked when talking to the new owner on Thursday afternoon. The new owner knew what he bought and was very proud of his REAL Shelby (another Evan). He was well pleased with the low price and couldn't stop smiling and I REALly couldn't blame him. It was a very nice car.

It was fiberglass. I was there. I asked the guy as I was feeling inside the fender lip.

CSX7028
this is a glass 7000 series, it was previously listed on this site for sale a while ago as well as other sites. the shape of the hood scoop, oil cooler scoop, trunk bumps, lack of post holes in the doors and shape of the front fender flares are typical of the glass cars......sai offered fender and under hood detailing to make the glass cars appear like the aluminum cars.

Default Tell us about Shelby at the birthday bash

Couldn't be there myself but like to hear how he looked at the party; was there a party for the general public and then for the insiders, etc. Was he hawking his '69 Shelby in person? Any hints as to what other treasures from his vault might come up for sale at another auction?

Normally the word "deal" and Barrett Jackson wouldn't be used in the same sentence, but there's some decent deals rolling by.

Some sellers would probably have been better off selling on eBay with a reserve.

Default Details

If anyone reaches under the fenders of my ERA - they'll find a smooth finish and a rolled lip.....just like it might have been if it were made outta aruminium.....

Details that a fanatic who always wanted a "REAL" one but couldn't afford one would do (sent the kids to college instead....now, seeing what they're doing with the results their college educations....I kinda wish I'd have bought a real 289 Cobra many years ago.....)

For the Bay Area folks...

Fun to see Bruce Canepa from Scotts Valley up there bidding on Lot 1281.1. CSX3279, a 1967 427 Cobra Sideoiler (green car) with 11,000 miles.

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...tNumber=1281.1

Sold for $625K, but he didn't get it.

Default Hey you in BAgdhad? (sp?)

I know a lot of water has gone under the bridge since the Hussein boys were dispatched to 72 virginland
but has anything come up on the cars they had stuffed away here and there around town?

One guy claimed he has been there a few times to see them, I guess a bunch of Testarossas and more current stuff repaidly declining in value

but the real treasure to be found in town is a prewar Mercedes 540K, two seater, Erdmann & Rossi body once ordered for the pre-war Emperor of Iraq, a guy who loved cars. When last seen, it was in a parking garage near the embassies.
It was restored by a restorer in Germany for Saddam by his cousin, the King of Jordan , as a gift but I figure there's a chance the German might have substituted a ringer figuring the Husseins wouldn't be too long for this world...

Well at least I thought they did a good job singing the theme song from Dukes of Hazard when the General Lee went on the block last night. It just doesn't seem to me the cars are selling as high or fast as in the past. Most likely the Economy and other things causing people to be careful about spending big.

Thumbs up

I thought so, too, Ron. The numbers are just not as high as they were last year. There have been some amazing deals go across the plate, compared to last year. Good show, though!

Ron, agree, noticeable lack of cliche's from Varsha like "new world record" or "topping last year". Jackson, Davis, and Assiter seemed to show a little disappointment and frustration in their inability achieve expected numbers from some of the "unique" cars that BJ likes to promote. How many times did we hear comments like "there's still a lot left in this car" and "this is a bargain" Maybe the Dow Jones tanking has brought some common sense back to some of these guys! It would be nice to see the real collectors get a break!

He owns two Chevy dealerships, North Dakota and Montana. Lives in Boseman presently and has amassed quite a 'Vette collection. Not to mention $$$ - the way he spends money on cars you would think he is the only Chevy dealer in those parts. He must either have a killer business going or he made great investments along the way. Or both.

As for auctions, the one car that really steamed me was a Placer Gold '71 Z-28 (no split bumper RS option, which is more coveted) without its original engine (but had a block that was stamped period correct and looked the part), but only 20K or so original miles, and it hammered at $100K. OMG! $100K for a non-matching numbers, non RS 2nd gen Z? Now every huckleberry with a 2nd gen Camaro is going to add $20K to their car. Sad, just sad.

Al, I think he owns a Chevy store, not sure where. He's been a fixture at BJ for years, his claim to fame is wearing a blazer of the same color as the Vettes he buys and sells; just like he did lastnight, when he put on the blazer matching the color of the new ZR-1. He enjoys his 15 minutes of fame every year; at 1 mill that's pretty expensive advertising air time!
