GH427 the 3positon Lucas switch is usually off/low/high, wether it is a toggle or a pull switch. this site may help you:

Thanks guys for your quick responses. The switch is the one advertised on the Finishline website (http://www.finishlineaccessories.com...941aba4ce11f21)
There a up to 8 numbers on the back of this switch but only 5 terminals which are, I presume, Ign 12 volts, Earth, off, slow and fast. However I am not sure which one corresponds to which number and was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram (similar to the Lucas wiper switch wiring diagrams).

Thanks everyone for your responses. G.R. that link only shows wiring to and from the switch but not how the actual switch is wired. I have a Lucas 31788 3position 5 terminal toggle switch (often used as a headlight switch). I want to use it to power a 2 speed heater and basically need a diagram showing which wires go to which terminals on the actual switch. Would a headlight wiring diagram be the same?
