Lucas 3 position toggle switch wiring diagram

I was hoping someone could provide me with a wiring diagram or explain how the Lucas 3 position toggle switch was wired up so I can operate a 2 speed heater motor. Thank you in advance.

There are a half-dozen different 3-position switches. Do you have a part number, or maybe a VOM to test it yourself? Usually #1 terminal is where power goes in.

It's probably the most common switch -- you know, the one with "Off, Flicker, and Fail" settings.

GH427 the 3positon Lucas switch is usually off/low/high, wether it is a toggle or a pull switch. this site may help you:

Thanks guys for your quick responses. The switch is the one advertised on the Finishline website (http://www.finishlineaccessories.com...941aba4ce11f21)
There a up to 8 numbers on the back of this switch but only 5 terminals which are, I presume, Ign 12 volts, Earth, off, slow and fast. However I am not sure which one corresponds to which number and was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram (similar to the Lucas wiper switch wiring diagrams).

Thanks everyone for your responses. G.R. that link only shows wiring to and from the switch but not how the actual switch is wired. I have a Lucas 31788 3position 5 terminal toggle switch (often used as a headlight switch). I want to use it to power a 2 speed heater and basically need a diagram showing which wires go to which terminals on the actual switch. Would a headlight wiring diagram be the same?

As "strictlypersonl" said, if you have a multi-meter, use the ohmmeter function to check continuity thru the 5 terminals in the 3 positions to determine the terminals for the off/low/high wiring terminations.

George the wiring if I remember correctly, should be the same. Other than amperage a switch doesn't care what it is controlling. But like has been stated an ohmmeter will tell you the continuity.
You'll have power to one terminal, ground to another, "lo" motor leg and "hi" motor leg. Two terminals should be marked....either + and the other -, or pos and neg. then one of the 3 remaining will be hi and another low. I had a diagram but unfortunately it went to the new owner of my car, I think I only used 4 of the terminals on the switch. It's been 4 years ago since I rewired my car and I just don't remember.

The headlight wiring is different because the parking lights remain on with the headlights.

Connections for the light circuit goes

1/ Power in
4/ Parking lights
8/ Headlights

So you have to find an alternative to that combination.

I am using the three position Lucas switch from Finishline
for a two speed fan and it is wired from what I can recall:
1/ power in
4/ low speed
8/ high speed

I have to pull my dash to replace my oil temp gauge so I will double check.
I might be doing that this week.

Good morning GH427,
to use a lucas switch for your fan you should use the wiper switch,because it does not have the double contact like the headlight one(keeps the parking on with headlights).
When I get to my shop this morning I will get you the wiring for the switches.
