How cool is this?

Was out cruising in 4241 this past Sunday, put about 200 miles on her in the beautiful Florida weather. Was crusing down a country highway, past by this gas station. Had to go back today and take some pics!!

Very cool. Don't find signs like that everyday.

Nice picture.........

The way business has been going lately, that my not be a bad idea!

BTW, for those who are not getting the pic... The PURE fuels sign is very old and is one of the vintage fuel stations from the 60s. The "vintage decal" kit that people put on their Cobras, has that same PURE star logo on it.

Sal,

That is a great picture and I remember the Pure Fuel and ESSO, and a number of others that I bet many of the people on the site never heard of. I even have die cast models of Ford Benzol, Pennzoil, and several other of the old hand pump gas pumps with the 5 gallon glass tanks on top. Not many of those old stations left any more. Oh yea, and the John Deer gas with since 1837 on the globe. And it was expensive back then with regular at 6¢, and Ethel at 10¢ per gallon.

Ron :)

I have the gas pump that goes with that sign. It sets next to my garage,

Back in my early trucking days, Pure and 76 were about the only fuels offered at the old style truck stops that had a couple of fuel pumps on a parking lot with pot holes big enough to drive thru and damn good home cooking(nothing like the mega plaza's of today). Remember fueling up at Little America for about .10/gallon...boy am I getting old or what..I am not old, I just have "selective Memory". If memory serves me, Union 76 was the fuel used at Nascar back in the '60s.

Ron61 02-05-2008 08:22 AM

:)

Michael,

Your memory is correct. NASCAR used Union 76. I used to buy it by the 55 gallon barrel. It was 110 octane leaded gas.

Ron :)

I grew up in the southeast and Pure was a top selling fuel at the time. They still sell it in Alabama and I think maby Georga.

Greg Haile 02-05-2008 10:47 AM

Sal,

Where was the picture taken?

I just bought photoshop, and turned into b&w. Looks great, but I can't get it into my documents to post. Might look good in momochrome also? Looks like I will have to read the instructions.....:CRY: Maybe someone else here can do that?

CHRIS DAMSCH 02-05-2008 01:41 PM

I was at meadowdale this summer walking the old track with the wife and kids. They have repainted the Silo. I'll have to look for the pictures when I get home.

Here's the link to some pics from the Meadowdale website.

Hey that's great! I walked the circuit fall of 2006, it was very cool. Amazing how the land has largely taken it back. I'm glad to see they saved the silo.
