Stretch,
You can't stay away from those salvage deals, can you?
Instead of "doubling down", you should read the fine print on the original purchase contract to see if you can recind your offer. It shouldn't take them 3 weeks to get their shix together to figure out the title.

Actually, the rollbars and windshield are easliy fixed (they really need to be ). I have seen B&B's in wrecks before - they usually come out the winner. There is a story running around about one getting broadsided by an Expedition! Bruises, but otherwise OK.
The B&B builds are like many others - the value is in the equipment. A donor build with an everyday engine is not worth that much. A new-parts build with the right suspension, engine/drive train, brakes, etc. can be worth much more. The body has no rear flares and the narrower front, so the front wheels needs a lot of backspacing for the car to look right. The body and frame is a great platform - very little flex and very strong. The body is very thick and heavy. The options (roll bar(s) interior, windshield, etc.) are not as nice as some of the other brands.
Also, if you need to paint it, this would be a good time to cut out the big thick panels around the edges where the hood and trunk fit in.
It is a good car, but needs some extra work to make it look right. When it is done right, I think they make really nice cars.
Good luck,
Brian

If it is a B&B remove the pass roll bar and lower the drivers side (they can be lowered) and change the rake on the windshield. Both jobs are fairly simple and require a 9/16" wrench.
As far as B&B is concerned I have been very happy with mine since I ordered it in 1999. I just sent it off to get a fresh paint job yesterday. The car has been as trouble free as they come. All of the fiberglass was done to a standard that in my opinion exceeds most other manufacturers (no stress crack or faulty seams). The frame is extremely strong and well made. Brian Anderson and Barry McGill are exceptional guys to work with while you are sorting things out. Customer service is second to none.
In short if you can't tell I have a great deal of respect for the B&B and I would buy another in a heartbeat. By the way I have built or helped build other brands and B&B dollar for dollar exceeds all other brands hands down.

We can't see the build quality or any of the details of the equipment. If it looks like it has been built right and passes the 10-foot rule (looks good from 10 feet away), $20K before paint sounds like a good deal. You can do your changes to make the car to your liking and then you get new paint.
I think you are on to something.

I have had an LA Exotics (B&B) since '94. I have yet to paint the car. The 18 year old gel coat still looks great. I'm pleased with the frame and glass, but the details are so-so. I bought it as a roller. The hood latch on the body is crap (they cut a slot in the glass). The returns on the fender wells are not finished that well. The door and hood edges are poor. The brake proportioning valve was completely blocked with crud. All easy to fix and for the price, this is what you would might expect.
Overall, I'm very happy. It's a good value.

I looked at a B&B last summer before I bought my Backdraft. Nice, solid car. But I hear ya on the windshield & rollbar.
Doesn't B&B offer two different windshield heights?
As for the rollbar, they just never looked right to me. I wouldn't just lower them, I would replace them... too widely spaced & too skinny. Shape is funky too. If you're doing paint & glass work, would be the perfect time to set it the way you want it.

The windshield can be adjusted to driver taste. Look at my car the rake of my windscreen is considerably different than the B&B above.
By the way my paint was in excellent condition except where the hot rubber pieces hit my nose and along the bottom of the rear fenders.

Slick,
You are on it. That's why I used a Shell Valley polished stainless roll bar and windshield for my B&B. In fact, I used pretty much only the body and frame from B&B, then bought the rest of the pieces that I liked best from other manufacturers.
