Poll- Radio Usage
Radios? We all know the noise levels of our cars exhaust can wreak havoc with an audio system. Yet many still prefer to have them.
Curious what the consensus is. Mind indicating your thoughts ??? Paul |
When I bought my car it had a CD player in it. One of the first things I did with the car was to remove it.
|
My Cobra does in fact have stereo -- it sounds wonderful, and always plays my favorite song.
The volume control is a rectangular shaped thing located next to the brake pedal. The only problem with it is that you'll burn your calf on the "speakers" if you're not careful getting out of the car! |

Shuffle steering and playing the air guitar just don't go together.:(
|
...couldn't help myself (sorry Ernie..) I had to install one and I'm glad I did. I can still hear the music with my 3" ID side pipes..**)
|
I have 3" straight through pipes and can still hear my stereo great.. I was going to say perfectly but i could'nt say that, but its pretty good sound even at freeway speeds under 80.

I have used my iPod for the past 1 1/2. I just started installing my radio last weekend, will finish up on Sat. I can't live without some sort of music, even if I can't hear it perfectly.
|
During my upgrade phase I installed an under car exhaust system to replace my headers and side pipes. Since the car was going to be considerably quieter, I thought that I'd go ahead and install a stereo. So in went a trunk-mounted head unit with a remote that sits on the tranny tunnel near my right knee.
If I had to do it over again...I wouldn't... At times it's OK (the CD/stereo), but road and tire noise on the highway can drown-out the sound system, unless you really want to crank it up. If I wanted that much noise I would have kept the side pipes. |
I rigged up a system in my SPF for awhile, sub and head unit in the trunk, remote wired control on the tunnel, custom thin speakers behind the seats etc, sounded great, and took it all out a few months after installed. Cranked up enough to hear while driving was so loud was ridiculous, just fubar for any regular use. I had read all the posts here and elsewhere about don't bother with a stereo install, use your sidepipes etc :o:o but I wasn't a believer until I actually tried it for myself **)**)
|
I put one in during the original build thinking it was easier to do it then rather
than later. It was a wasted effort - I have never used it - i just listen to the stereo pipes. |
What? Did you say something?
|
I enjoy my stereo around town, but I listen to the iPod on freeway trips.
Ever hear a REALLY LOUD motorcycle on the road? And thought it was obnoxious as hell? Some of the responses here remind me of those same motorcycles. |
Never installed a radio or stereo in my FIA with its "little" 289 and I've never missed it even on long drives. If you really need "music," just pretend that you're in the shower and sing your favorite song. The pipes will be so loud that nobody else will hear you making it even less embarrassing than singing in the shower!
|
Radio in da' car? I can't hear anything except the pipes when I fire up...
|
I just drove mine into work this AM.. The Deep Purple "Machine Head" album was a slammin' while the gears I wuz a jammin!**):D
|
Never use it on the road, ok when we are sitting in a parking lot or around waxing or such...
|
When I want tunes while driving (most of the time), my iPod with premium brand, noise reducing, earbuds effectively delivers much better sound than a traditional system could because of all the background noise. I think using an iPod while driving is technically illegal in CA, but I've never been hassled and I would have to roll up quite a few fines to equal what I would spend for a high-end system.

Hey Vanoochka;
Nice pics in your gallery. The weather is almost suitable to shoot some pictures like yours here in the mid-west. Bryon |
