Default Book on building a cobra kit car

Hey,

Just looking for a good book on all that is required when building a cobra kit car. Something more technical than the history of the car, etc. I'm speaking of the actual build procedures or possible option on the build like engine type, rear end type, etc.

Thanks

Every kit is different so finding a book that covers all the different packages will be an exercise in futility. About the closest thing you can do is pay attention to the board and ask questions and you'll learn as you go along.
About the other closest thing is to get onto a dedicated forum like the one for ffcobra.com and you'll get answers to any question that can possibly come up with that particular manufacturer of kit. Better than any book or manual.

I'm very mechanical but I have no welding training but know engines. The books is actually for a friend. He's looking at finding out what it takes to build one of these. Right now I think he's at the basic stage of figuring out the overall cost and labor. It'd be a weekend project so I think he wants something with a frame already intact.

I will try to talk him into reading on a forum because its basically how I learned all about the cars I've owned and modded.

Thanks

A good place to start might be the ERA site

You shouldn't have to do any welding on any of the packages I'm aware of unless you change something. Usually, everything in most of the kit packages are pretty intuitive if you have any mechanical background and are fairly easy to put together.
The Factory Five cars seem to have the best set up for the do-it-yourself guys with their new all inclusive complete kit all you supply is the engine, tranny, wheels, tires, and paint- and lots of sweat.

Once you've narrowed your choice down to perhaps 3, I would contact each of the manufacturers and get a copy of their manual. You might have to pay a few bucks, but this would be a GREAT way to get a look at how detailed (or otherwise) they get. Note : MOST of the manuals are not that good, but are more than adequately supplemented by THIS, and the specific manufacturer's fora. I chose a Lonestar, and EVERYONE on their site recommends that you read EVERY one of the forum threads before you start...GREAT advice!

Before I decided to scratch build my car I purchased the build manuals from Factory 5 and Hurricane Motorsports, both are very complete and were useful in my build. They each cost $55 well worth the cost. Carl
