Default red superformance on ebay beware

ebay item 350043811390 red superformance. i asked the seller of this cobra what year this superformance was built. he said it was number 1401 built in 2002. i looked it up in the old superformance registry. its turns out 1401 was a blue 2002 sp. So i was totally confused is the car a real superformance because it didnt have a sp serial number? the serial number is am1401. So i did some more checking and it turns out it is a superformance but it was made in like 1998. So to my fellow cobra brothers beware of ebay and this guy chicagomotorcars. Always research before you buy.

I'm still a virgin with these cars, but if I remember right, the serial number below from their site would indicate this is car number 406 built in 1998.

AC9CSLK1398AM1406 going by this chassis number, it would be car number 406. you do not use the 1 after the AM in the vin.

yes on his site the serial number is rite but he emailed me saying it was a 2002. It is clearly not a 2002. So thats false and misleading advertising. i was looking for a red sp and didnt recognize the am in the serial number. AGAIN BEWARE---> always research before buying.

Good catch. FWIW, #747 was built in Jan/Feb 2000. Gives you some sense for production counts from '98 to that point. The older cars are quite solid, but it's too bad the seller has to misrepresent the car.

He might be old or retired like me. I neither know the year; month; day; date, but the time is on the bottom corner of my computer and it is light outside.

Although it would be odd for an SPF which comes basically finished minus motor/trans, it is possible that it was built in 1998, but not actually registered and titled with the state until 2002. If that is the case, then the title would say it is a 2002, and the seller's claim would be correct, it just isn't the complete story. But again, I doubt it took anyone 4 years to finish and register an SPF, but stranger things have happened.

There is also SP01384 (also RED) for sale on Ebay ( item # 320237518863 ). I have personally seen the car and it is NICE. Runs strong!!!!! It was for sale in Houston for several months.

I think that the early SPF cars did not come as "rollers" and required substantial work to put them together.

I can't speak to earlier than the one I had (346), but it came as a roller. Just had to add motor , tranny, and hook-ups, etc....

I still have a 2000-2001 issue (maybe it was 1999?) of Kit Car with that advertisement on the back cover. And, ironically, the same issue had not one but TWO red/white stripe Superformances on the cover. I wonder where I got the idea on what I was going to ultimately own...
