On the "How Much Does Your Car Cost?" Question

On the "How much does your car cost?" question that we threaded a couple of weeks back, I had my ERA at a car show today and two late-teen girls were looking it over. I patiently explained what it was, how much fun it was to drive, etc. when one of them asked:

"How much did you pay for this?"
"Oh, I never tell," I replied.
"Really, c'mon tell us."
"No, I never tell."
"I bet it cost ten thousand dollars."
"Yes, you're right," I admitted.
"I knew it," she said.

Her friend then said to her "I think it might of cost more than that." But she was obviously not sure whether it did or not and the first girl was quite sure the car could be had for ten grand.:D

My secretary's favorite blonde joke (she is blonde, btw): Why did the blonde stare at the carton of orange juice? Because it said concentrate. :p

How can you tell when a blonde secratary has been using your computer?

There's "white-out" on the screen.

How can you tell when your partners blonde secratary has been using your computer?

There's writing on the white-out.

How can you tell when the blonde secratary from down the hall has been using your computer?

There's cheese in front of the mouse.

Blonde asking question: How much did you pay for this
My response: That is an interesting question, why do you ask

Anyone who asks usually has an ulterior motive, I prefer to find out what that is before I respond (could be a spy for my wife :D )............

Of course when I posted it Deb was sitting right next to me on the couch and laughed. She is also the one who told me "you are just so miserable working all those hours, you need to go out and buy another FPSB"

What did the blond say upon opening a box of Cheerios?
"....oh wow ...look donut seeds"

Cobrabill 05-18-2008 08:02 AM

Why don't blondes make "Kool-Aid"?

Because they can't figure out how to fit two quarts of water into the little envelope.

Why don't blondes eat pickles?

They keep getting their heads stuck in the jar.

When asked the dreaded question, I usually say,"I really don't,you see, reciepts can and will be used against you in divorce court."
I always shread receipts........I can give an educated guess and probably be within five grand, that's about as close as I can get......

If someone is really interested in a car, I give them a range, but if it's just some idiot prying, I ask them how much did they pay for their house??? or some other possesion, then they usually get the point and leave..........

" I have no idea, it's my moms car"

The older you are, the stranger the look you get back.

At 50+ it works well.

(It works for the "Is it real" question too)

Naumoff 05-19-2008 08:20 PM

I tell them "I don't know. It was a gift from my wife." :)

Dangerous Doug 09-10-2008 05:30 PM

I like the "Mom's car" answer the best...

Dose your wife have a sister;).

wtm442 09-10-2008 10:18 PM

When asked the "How much does it cost question", I usually reply

"That's between me and my check book".

Sometimes, if I have the small ignition key in my hand, I show them the key and say "I traded one BIG check for this small key."

Randy Rosenberg 09-10-2008 10:25 PM

I usually tell them, "An SPF roller goes for about $35k, and then any amount can be spent on drive train and everything."

But I really like the other more creative answers - "my mom's car!" Gotta luv it!

gene giambona 09-10-2008 11:04 PM

Randy,

According to Dennis at Dynamic Auto West SPF rollers are now about $43k. The weak US dollar surely hasn't helped!

I'll have to try the " I have no idea, it's my moms car" line in the future.

BDHE 09-12-2008 12:07 PM

Greetings!

I get the sense that instead of just enjoying the car, people want to be impressed by how much cash they might be looking at sitting there.

Fortunately, there don't seem to be that many of this type.
