Question Collector gasket

I have a custom made header to muffler flange setup. I am having problems with blowing out gaskets. I have looked at the surfaces and they seem to be relatively close to meeting flush. I assumed a gasket would seal any slight deformities. I used Mr Gasket white asbestos material to make the gaskets. The problem is once they get hot they become brittle. Does any one know of anyone that sells aluminum/asbestos bulk material of of any permatex type material that I might be able to use. Or any other ideas.

Thanks:

A good gasket supply house will have uncured asbestos with a stainless steel fine wire mesh as a core, very similar to the material you used but with the wire mesh. That should do what you're looking for.

Default Somebody collects everything, I suppose....

When I saw the title for your post I thought "Who the heck would bother collecting gaskets?" Coins, stamps, fine art -- yes, but gaskets? C'mon.

Mark,
Forget everything else-use Percy's High Performance dead soft aluminum gaskets. See pics in my gallery. No leaks in about 10 years. And they've been reused several times.

I just used good quality silcone with no gasket and no problems.

I am using Permatex Ultra Copper high temp RTV silicone. No gaskets. Seems to be working good. No leaks for some time now.
