To:****** All FFR customers:* If you are driving an FFR chassis kit that uses Bilstein shock absorber part numbers:
*
F4BE3 A273-T0
F4BE3 A273-T1
F4BE3 A273 T0 SR
Stop driving your car immediately.
There is a possibility that the shock absorbers on your car may break/fail and could result in your injury or the injury of others.
These numbers are stamped on the shock body and these shocks were used on the front suspension and the rear independent suspension kits from about 2003 to August 1, 2008. *If you do not know how to determine if your car is affected, please call us at 508-291-3443 and ask for technical support.
There are no further answers for you guys tonight. I will be directing the staff at FFR to communicate this initial message to all affected customers via our website, our mailing list and records, and verbally to our customers, suppliers and clients.
I am truly sorry for this inconvenience and look forward to being able to communicate an action plan to all of you shortly.
Dave Smith
President

how long has this "action plan" been in the works now? 1 or 2 years. or is this a new action plan that supercedes the last action plans

This isue just keeps draging on and on. I hate to see this turn out bad, but I had the feeling It would.I know FFR will loose , but I have the feeling that the builders are going to get bitten on this as well. This is a no win for everybody.I think FFR stuck their head in the sand for to long. Now it's grown to big for them to handle.Roger

Except for the fact that this has been a well known problem for along time and FFR ignored it.

Hey! I'm an outsider...I don't have a FFR, but it appears to me that Dave Smith is doing the right thing. Inspect your car and call him.
Remember these things are just car parts and sometimes they don't work as expected.

Blas - typically shafts are snapping at the end of the threads. As to the reason why - that discussion has been going on for over 2 years.

Great info.
My SPF 1049 is supposed to have Bilstein shocks. I'm not 100% sure, because I've never checked them. The paperwork that came from the dealer (Olthoff) said it had Bilstein shocks. Car was built by SPF in Feb 2001. The FFR letter said 2003 to 2008.
So I guess I need to check my shock serial numbers, just in case?
Can you see the serial number without removing the shock?

Hmm... my old FFR (bought in 03) came with Pro Shocks, not Bilstiens. I wonder why they used two different brands within the same time period.

WTM442, On my front shocks you can see the numbers by removing the tire. It's right at the top of the shock. On the rear I removed the tire and the bottem mounting bolt. I slid the bottem of the shock off the stud so I could turn the spring so I could see the number on the body of the shock.Roger

Just a question
My SFP was build in 2003, by any change SPF used Bilstien, or should I call SPF and ask for this info?
Does SPF keep all the record of the build-sheet?
Regards

If you don't figure out what shocks you have by then, would you mind driving behind the rest of us on Friday?

Chuck
Called Tim at 513-738-4000 ( part dept. for SPF) and SPF using Bilstien shocks on their roller chassis and have
not heard/report from user that shocks are defect, however I will check out the lot # / stamp when I get home
YES, I will follow you guys on Friday, since I am a slow driver and do not want to cause traffic jams, so it's work out well
