shelby american chassis tag

i have a silly question. ok, do the "kit" cars have shelby american chassis tags? what does an orig. frame look like is it tube like the newer kinds? thanks don russell

Tim Brewer 10-11-2008 10:52 PM

No, kit cars do not have Shelby tags, and a original frame is made with round tubing.

Stentor 10-11-2008 11:17 PM

Huh!? Not quite sure I am following you.

Post up some pics and I am sure we can help you ID the brand of car.

thanks.. im not really sure what the car is ,do not really care. i want a corbra and the guy is willing to trade for my turbo drag mustang. it could be a cheap kit with a fake tag for all i know(and im almost certain it is). but i want a corbra not a drag car.. don

It would help to post photos of the engine compartment, radiator, foot boxes from the engine compartment perspective, cockpit, trunk interior, and shots of the car exterior - side view - front view - rear view.

Is the chassis round tube or rect tube? What is the serial number on the plate?

RD

Ron61 10-12-2008 08:32 AM

A lot of kit cars around here bought those plates and stuck them on with their Vin numbers stamped on them. I can't read yours, but it is to long to be a CSX number from what I can see. I had one on my Classic Roadsters Cobra that I sold a year or so ago with the assigned VIN stamped in that spot.

If it is an original it will have CSX 2XXX or CSX 3XXX for the VIN. Also an original had the VIN stamped in other places also. CW and several of the guys that own originals on here can telll you all of the places to look for an original VIN.

As others have said, if you post some pics of the key mechanical areas, I am sure the group can help ID the maker of the kit.

It is a fake tag; a lot of people like the look of the tag and, over the years, many repros were sold and used on replicas.

im trying to get other pics today.. don

Are you sure the picture is the one you wanted to attach, as that looks like a late model Mustang engine compartment picture to me. No cobra replica has been built with a Mustang shock tower or separate fender.

Ron61 10-13-2008 08:59 AM

Don,

Could you post a few pictures of the whole car? What Bill said above is correct. That is a fender on a real car or someone has built an unusual replica.

Ron,

I was busting his chops for posting a picture of his turbo Mustang engine compartment. I'm sure it was a mistake on his part

Just my observation, cheap $29.95 nugget wheels, cheap summit racing seats (again $49.95), what else did he cut corners with during the build.

How about posting some larger pictures in your gallery and then linking them to the post showing different angles and the engine compartment in a size that is easier to see. Bill got about the only two things that the attached picture shows. I think I see one thing that could help, but it isn't clear enough in that picture to make any statement about it.

Ron :)
