Default 2002 Unique 427 leaking gas tank question

I'm considering the purchase of a 2002 Unique 427 with a 331 roller/stroker motor.

It was advertised last year here on ClubCobra, which you can see at 2002 Unique 427.

It looks great but currently has a leak from the gas tank where the feed tube attaches to the tank; there appears to be a filter there, then feeds forward to the carbs.

Do any of you Unique members know if this is a big problem to get fixed?...i.e. how much do you think it would cost to get this fixed?

Also, any comments on this Cobra?

Thanks!

I have a Unique and I love it!! There have been some that have developed gas leaks usually along the weld seams. The tank is very easy to pull and repair or replace should you choose to do so. Be sure to stop over at the Unique forums.

Uniques are a fine Cobra and the Weavers are terrific folks! You can't go wrong with them!

I had the same problem with a Unique 289 FIA. Seems that the pick up plug for the gas line had been threaded into a weld seam and the weld gradually became 'perforated' and leaked. Ordered a new tank from Unique, and it took about an hour to pull the old one and put in the new one. End of problem. I never liked having the gas tank in the trunk - but it sure was handy then. Call Unique and ask Alan what a new tank goes for (around $300 as I recall).

I was told to use the same gasoline resistant thread sealer that is used to seal aircraft fuel tank threads. I can't remember what the name of the stuff is, but if you'll call Maurice I'm sure he can recommend the sealer. Mine has never leaked. By the way, nice decision to buy the car!
