Merry Xmas John,
A couple of thoughts for a fuel line from pump to carb that is running on the front of the engine are too keep it cooler and not promote heat saturation from the engine.If you ran up the back of the engine it would be much hotter just from the engine heat. Running the steel line in the front allows the most airflow around the steel hose or fuel line. Brackets for the line are not needed to support its weight and a big heavy bracket or mounts would just help to soak heat into the fuel from the block when park it after a run.
