The Barrett Jackson this week
I'm sure most of us already are aware the Barrett Jackson is on this week. Us people in the snow belt areas can't drive our Cobra's in the snow. They don't hook up very well. So we look forward to the Barrett Jackson auction and wish we could afford the $850,000 original SC Cobra. I believe one of Shelby's first race car will be auctioned.

I always Tivo the whole thing and then speed through the gazillion commercial breaks. You can then watch the entire program in about 2-3 hours. Speed Channel's coverage is usually pretty good, but the number of breaks are rediculous.

Agree, TIVO or DVR is the way to go. I went through Tuesday's 5 hour segment in less than two hours. I did fast forward through quite a few of the cars that I wasn't interested in. The number of commercial breaks is insane!
Only bummer is that they still don't offer SPEED channel in HD where I live.

The days of the $850,000 original SC are long gone. $1.5m was an average price until a couple of weeks ago when CSX 3021 sold for a reported $3.5m.

And you can just bet that ole C.S. is trying to figure out a way to cash in on those sales by suing the owners for a percentage of the appreciation because he feels he is the reason for the increase in some way or another.

Stephen Becker of Planet Cobra is there displaying a Cobra that has a Pops Performance built FE in it. My car was scheduled to be displayed but that had to be cancelled due to not being ready. Planning on having it there next time.

...took a fast look at the BJ list. Maybe I missed it, but what is the lot number for a Cobra at B-J?

Shelby's car did sell, it was an MG I believe. The first car he ever won a race in. Pratt bought it. I think it was lot #25 (very low #) I don't think it brought nearly what they were trying to get for it. But if you put it in Pratts collection, now your talking some HIGH, HIGH dollars....

What I saw
I went over to the auction last night. What I saw was a hand full of Cobras and most of them were the Factory Five Replicas. I did see 2 CSX4000 in the tent and I'm pretty sure those are the Superformance cars. All in All it was a good show, not as many cars as past years but good.

My first time ever, I watched some of the Barrett-Jackson auction (over the Web, don't have it on cable). Seemed like some nice cars went at relatively low prices, considering the purported history and condition of some of the cars.
I missed the Cobras, but saw some nice Mustangs and Corvettes. The auctioneers sure can talk fast, and the camera guys were zooming in on more than just the cars! Great entertainment ... would be fun to participate ... just bring $$$ !

This year's prices are reflecting our sick economy. A glaring example: '69 COPO Camaro, ZL1 427, 100 point presentation went for $290k. A lot of money, but this is about the most collectable muscle car, and would have sold for at least 2.5 times that figure in 2006 or 2007.

Did anyone else notice that it was Reggie Jackson's car and he was bidding on it too!?? The look on Mr. October's face was priceless when this car barely got above $200K. I think he was willing to buy it back (pay the fees and move on), but in the end once they got close to $300K he probably just swallowed real hard and let it sell.
I realize that car is 1 of 50 or so and that it is the pinnacle of Chevy "factory" cars. And I even used to have a '71 Camaro that I painted that same, beautiful deep forest green. But I also believe that particular color can hold the price of car down somewhat in a cooled off economy. If it had been black or red, would have gone for more $$$.
I DVR'd the whole thing and continue to be appalled by the number of commercials. Sad...

The Reggie Jackson 69 ZL1 was stated to be a rebody. I'm sure if it was not a rebody you would have seen a much higher price. These cars have traded upwards of 800k in the last year or two.

On the streaming video on speedtv.com Reggie mentions this car belongs to a friend. (TV was on commercial at the time) I don't think that justifies him bidding on it however.
Mike Joy made mention the following night that they received a lot of emails questioning Reggie's bidding and he explained that Reggie did not own the car.

Sellers bid on their own cars all the time, especially at a no reserve auction. They will either drive the price up or buy it back themselves and pay the commissions. Think about some guy who has $100,000 in a car and it stalls at $50,000. He can't let it go for that amount so he (or his buddy) jumps in and starts bidding.
