Paul I feel for you running your Shelby against real 2 seaters. I ran my Boss 302 in San Antonio solo 1s quite a few times and it seemed like the course was always set up by some goober with an MG. Sometimes my car wouldn't hardly fit through some of the gates!

Default Tires helped
I found stickier tires and steering box tightness brought me up past the over-powered Superformance Cobras. And yes, goobers in MGs are always put in charge of course design.
