Those side pipes seem to take away from the car.

The tail is too Corvettish.

But a cheby engine with an auto?

It could be fixed.

If you look closely you'll see Huggy Bear's autograph on the dash..

gt500bill 02-08-2009 03:31 PM

Not really a Cobra....

tboneheller 02-08-2009 05:47 PM

That bastard is UGLY.

Tim Brewer 02-08-2009 09:07 PM

As long as YOU like it, who cares what anyone else thinks. You going to have to build it from scratch, so put on some decent sidepipes, maybe install Lucas tail lights instead of those big round ones. Your car will look even beter than the one in the picture.

Madmiles442 02-10-2009 07:16 PM

Great color scheme.
That's about it.

khansmith 02-10-2009 07:40 PM

If you like it, that's all that matters. Happiness is hard to come by.

Silverback51 02-11-2009 02:55 AM

I wouldn't call it a Cobra.

Aussie Mike 02-11-2009 03:58 AM

I remember A.C. had a prototype that looked just like that shape a few years back. It was called the Manta or something and was going to run Aussie 4.0 inline 6 power.

I'll have a search and see if I can find the details.

Cheers

It was the Mamba.

The original plan was for it to be the worlds 'first' green sportcar, running on LPG gas. (You try finding LPG in the UK now!)

It almost looks passable in the photo but in real life, it was just 'orrid. The body was a quick slap-n-dash mess and the whole thing was a panic response to the failure to sort the Ace properly - so yet another blind alley. But now gone and forgotten which may just be a blessing :-)

The other aspect I like about it is that I'll be able to install a viable roll cage. Something not possible with a roadster. I want a street car that is halfway safe as well. Up till now, the thought of driving a cobra at the track was quite frankly a bit scary. (at least with a cabin and a roll cage there's less of a chance of grating my face and helmet to a pulp if the car goes tits up). I know, I know, roadsters can feature roll bars....but they look to be about as effective as peanut shell helmet....there only out of a sense of satsifying a requirement rather than a true intent for safety.

Anyway, I like it....a lot.

And as far as the rest of the comments.

1) I agree, the exhaust fit/finish SEEMS strange to me from the photographs. Not sure why they don't follow the body lines better.

2) As far as engines go, we could debate forever. I'm a mustang fan, not necessarily a Ford nut. GM, Chrysler and Ford all produce engine platforms that have high points and low points. Pick your poison. Even a rice burner can be made to perform and do it well. I don't see anything terrible about a GM power train.

3) As far as the auto goes, it's personal preference. I think a true auto leaves a bit to be desired in a sports car. I plan to run a racing auto (reverse manual valve body) and eventually put automatic paddle shifters. I guess it would be closer to call it a "clutchless" rather than an auto. In any sense though, all things being equal, autos outperform manuals. Only in NASCAR (which is more concerned with equity and fair play than effectiveness....which is why they run old technology) do they feature manuals. Drag and Indy feature autos.

I agree that a true clutch/manual is the most fun, but for snapping out 10 second 1/4 passes, hole shots and straightaway runs......an auto is more effective and more importantly....more consistent. (that's one of the biggest reasons the drag guys use them)....again....I'm speaking of a manual v-body version.

Didn't you buy one of these way back when you joined Club Cobra? I remember something about "I just bought a cobra coupe" or something like that.

Was this thread more of a bait trap because you were bored with the lounge?

Honestly.

Yep. I purchased the kit through Streetbeasts. I have a downpayment on the whole kit, but have not received the frame/chassis yet because I don't have anywhere to start building the car (that and I have quite a few components of the rolling chassis left to get).

I just saw photos of it on the web, (which weren't available before). The one's on streetbeasts website are of the same car, but low res/size and more difficult to make out.

Just thought I'd post them cause I didn't have pictures to post before. Relax a little.

Bill's kinda high-strung; make no mind of it. I like the car -- ignore all others, and to your own heart be true. Go ahead and get going on the build.;)

One word: hideous.

IMHO....

ng8264723 02-11-2009 12:56 PM

Well I agree with the others that the sidepipes are poorly designed I don't think the body is that bad. I have learned that you don't ask opinion questions on aesthetics. Everyone is different and if you like it who really cares what others think
