Default I'm so PO'd - glass and paint chip

I had a shot through the cold Colorado weather to get an emissions test (which I failed, but that's another story). On the way home some little twit decide he was going to go fast and spewed gravel and rocks. I knew better than to take it out but my temporary permit is running out and today looked to be the best day to get it in to the emissions test.

Anyway, the windshield is gone. Two rocks there.

There is a big chip in the drivers door too.

So does anyone know what the windshield part number is? What kind of seals are needed? I'm betting that the average glass company is going to be clueless here.

I'm so PO'd...

The real question is, how many rounds did you get off before you had to reload? It is the same part number as the early SPF if thats any help.

I was thinking of a mod to the Cobra. Up the snout with the fans and oil coolers there is room to mount some missiles. "Don't touch that switch on the instrument panel behind the little plastic cover."

Even the day after this miffs me. People are so irresponsible.

Thanks for the pointers to some glass places. I'll try to work with the glass company first and if they can't find it then I'll point them to some of these.

Look down where the bug is there should be a d.o.t.(department of transportation) number and a brand name (Viracon,PPG,LOF) or other name ,your local glass shop should be able to help you ....if not then try your favorite manufacturer they should be able to help you with a new windshield........some days your the windshield and some days your the bug.

Finishline in FL may have what you are looking for, if you are going to replace the entire sheet of glass.

Next time use Wad Cutters.

In the front range communities we have to have an active emissions test (not the little one that they do at the gas stations). For cars built after a certain date and newer its a dyno test. I only had to have a tailpipe test because it is titled as a 1965. It has only to meet the standards of a 65. (Which it didn't!) Once the Roush is whipped into submission it ought to be as good as any modern vehicle. Also, they don't check catalytic converters, gas tank pressurization, etc.

These centers are actually a copy of the old Hamilton Test Systems test centers found in Arizona. (I worked for DEC when the Hamilton systems used PDP-11's. Now they're all PCs.) If you are lucky to be in the Denver area you can get a drive by test. They have a mobile test system set up usually on freeway entrances/exits and if you drive by two or three times and pass you get a waiver on your renewal.

New vehicles are exempt for (I think) 4 years. After that it's every two years.

There is some discussion about doing away with it. Almost all new vehicles pass due to the computer controls. Someone even suggested it would be cheaper to buy all those old cars than continuing the tests.

Other parts of Colorado have a much relaxed "gas station" test.

Does the windshield come with the chrome trim all around it or is this reused?

that is the info you want to give to your friendly glass installer and he should be able to hook you up. every windshield installed and or sold in the US must have a D.O.T. number which will also I.D. the mfgr of that part .....the original csx cars used two different windshields if i remember correctly one was thicker than the other but i dont know the aplication of which went where maybe the 289 cars used the thin one and the 427 cars used the thick one but dont know for sure.
