Here are two posible solutions to the burn problems around the cobra.

Install a small 12"x12" welding blanket on each side door sill. Just roll it out and then roll it back when done entering or exiting the hot car. Blankets are held on with two small straps attached to the inside sills with snaps.

Arm protection: Eliminate those pesky scraps and burns while working on the hot motor by simply sliding on a couple of Gym Socks over your arms, with the feet portion cut off. The socks offer good protection when reaching down alongside the motor.

These two solutions have save me a lot of "hurt". :D

As said before, stand up in the car. Then step out, away from the car.

I don't know that car. If nobody is famiiliar with an "off the shelf" set of primaries that fit your particular car/sidepipe configuration, then the next step is to use one of the "put together" tube kits that you use to mock up and fit between the heads and the sidepipes (so they don't hit the steering column and other stuff), tack it all together, and then give those to the fabricator and they'll make the real thing for you.

EDIT: Here's an example from a quick Google: Custom Headers Built To Your Specifications

You should start a new thread with your request in the title. Otherwise, there is a very good chance someone with the answer will not see your question buried in this old thread about hot sidepipes.

After you get burned for the first time -

Of course when you were not expecting it, your vocabulary will increase substantially with some new words.

Some have compared it to the birth of their first child. It is something you will NEVER forget!

When washing the bugs off the windshield at the gas station, don't try to wash the whole windshield from one side of the car. Doing this caused me to stand a little too close to my sidepipes and took the tongues out of my athletic shoes. In 19 years of Cobra ownership, we've experienced no serious burns, but you really have to keep warning people who don't know these cars well. I recall seeing a guy who attached a flap of leather just inside his door. When he opened the door, he could just toss it out and it layed over the pipe. It stowed neatly alongside the seat otherwise. The leather matched his seats, too.

A guy I work with has used this kit to mock up his headers for a GT40 that he is building and then sent them out to be built.

Came back and they were a perfect fit.

I know it's not an off the shelf header, but it's a real easy way to get what you need.

Makes getting out of the car a pain besides just the burn,my reason for going under car exhaust. The other reason was the noise 3' from the left ear.Had a big block Vette years ago with side exhaust it did get old especially on long trips.

Don't worry, you will only do it once!
