Side pipes clearance question ?

Guys what's suppose to be the clearance between the biggest part of the pipe and the body,one of my pipe was welded slightly crooked,it's kinda going away from the body,is there a "by the book" type of specification,thanks for any inputs,

One of those things that only you will notice. But if you're like most of it, will drive you nuts until it's right. Mine sits about 1.5" out.
Just remember, nobody can see both pipes at the same time.

I am anal with that kind of stuff and it really tickles me to know that one pipe might not be exactly the same distance from the body than the other one,i guess i'll have to try my best to make them look the same or let it go.
I noticed also that my pipes exhaust are pointing to the ground instead of the side,is it a bad thing,what will be the difference in the sound,anybody can comment on that please,thanks

I agree, what ever you like. I just built stainless steel exhaust for mine and will be selling them as a "Kit" for about any big block FE on the market. Possible for other 460's and maybe small blocks. I had the stock Lone Star pipes with a 3" louvred muffler and mine now are 3.5" and I gained 12 HP. I will make a new post for these soon. The SS sounds awesome.

For the pipes pointing to the ground,it's my bad,i put the right to the left and the left to the right causing the exhaust tip to point down,oops !

Just make sure they go from front to back : )
Pointing a little downward is actually kinda good (In my opinion). I know that some folks who had them pointing downward complained about dust when sitting idle.

Believe me,the way they were the city could have hire me to clean the streets,what a f... up !

I was wondering why mine were so special compare to the rest of us ah! ah! ah!

My Side-pipes are 5/8" away from the body and I wonder if that will burn or blister the paint or fiberglass?

Would appreciate knowing if you have/had pipes within the 5/8" from the body and experienced problems.

I run them around 1" away from the body. Make sure the timing and mixture is good or they'll run so hot and blister the paint. Have you seen what too much advance does to an exhaust manifold?

I have not seen what too much heat does to an exhaust manifold. Do you have pictures?

I know that incorrect/too retarded can make headers glow red hot, but I've not had any personal experience.

Never let a tape measure get to close to Cobra, original or replica. The results will ALWAYS lead to disappointment if your a perfectionist.

Who has a head so big that they can see both sides at the same time anyway. I'm past that phase now,the car is built and it looks awsome,this is coming from my peers ! Most of them don't know much about building a car anyway !

Watch that ground clearance, I can tell you what happens when you hang your pipes on a tiger claw. That's the speed bump with big hairy steel teeth when you exit a Hertz Rental Car Facility. Hertz was first class with proper compensation.
