6/25/09 Warning CA-17: Silicon Valley to Santa Cruz road warning...
Heads up for those of you in the SF Bay Area, considering taking that lovely Cobra over highway 17 to or from Santa Cruz:
There is about 3 miles of road-grinding that was just done. Rocks and pebbles and dust are all over the place. Think twice before you head for the beach in your Cobra for the next week or so...
I got nailed in the head with a pebble kicked up from some other car. Thankfully, the glossy, shiney finish on my shaved head caused the pebble to ricochet off without causing any major damage...

LMAO.
I love that road. I used to spend the week working in SV and my wife would fly in and we'd head to SC for the weekend. I can only dream of pulling those hills in my FE torque monster. You Cali guys are lucky, all we have in Southeast Texas are long, straight, flat, hot roads with dead armadillos. And cops waiting at the other end.

Doug,
Sounds like a skull cap and goggles are in order.
My wife's car got sand blasted on 17 yesterday. On the positive side, I read in the SJ Mercury today that the multi-year construction project is going to finally be completed in the next month or so.

I love to hate that drive. I would put it on my list of "roads I would like to rent" so I wouldn't have to worry about others on the road. My favorite would be Big Thompson Canyon from Loveland to Estes Park.

I was back and forth over 17 today in the daily driver. Nice and smooth now.
