Easy. Incorrect and poor ad text.

They were never "Shelby Cobras". They were Mustang Cobra IIs. Again Ford Profiting off of their $1.00 purchase of the name. They throw in a picture of CS and tie it all in and claim family relation.

You guys know better. The average Joe may not but you guys should.

And your point is?????

patrickt 07-20-2009 03:58 PM

I hate to tell you, but...

RodKnock says he has a grainy video of you at your firm's "Karaoke Night" singing "If you like Pina Coladas, gettin' caught in the rain...." He says he's prepared to post it if you don't settle on his terms. I think he means it.

I made the point earlier allowing it to be ignored first. I'll requote myself here since Pat's and these are better examples of my thought. I forgot the Oldsmoblie-powered Series I, Turbo-powered 'Dodges' - ad nauseum.

Don't misunderstand my intent-that's in the eyes of some Shelby owners. I also refer to "crap ERA's", something I obviously don't believe.
Your car's a gem.

Chas, I knew you were kidding. I just forgot to add the smile. No worries. All's good.

Now, I want a list of all the CSX owners that think Kirkham's are a "tin can."

If I get Mr. Shelby's autograph, will my car still be considered a "tin can"?

REAL 1 07-20-2009 06:34 PM

Patrickt: Why? Was I off key or something?

Hamburger in Paradise is my "B" side song. I can send you a recording of it if you like.

:D

Hey, don't blame me -- it was RodKnock. I'm just the messenger; a conciliator, if you will. And it's a cheeseburger, not a hamburger. You're obviously not a parrot head.

REAL 1 07-20-2009 07:16 PM

Nope. Its Hamburger. Thats my version.

That's one restaurant (Cheeseburger in Paradise) that I never go to when in Lahaina, Maui.

Patrick, way to throw me under the bus.

What'saCobra? 07-20-2009 09:52 PM

Pssst!

That $1 FORD paid for the name?

More like several million in debts and other "liabilities" FORD had to pick-up in the wrap-up of the US Cobra operations shut-down in 1967/8.

i doubt if 1099's were filed.

I do go along with Rick’s definition of „replica“ which has been used by Jaguar for the XK120 non-record braking street version of the „real“ record braker. But „replica“ has changed it’s definition. We all know that.

The correct answer for the man in the street to the question:
Is it an original (meanning the 60s) MAY be
a. Yes, build in the 60s worth $600.000
b. No, build by Kirkham, worth $100.000
c. No, build by „xyz“ worth $xx.xxx

What they actually want to write home is: I saw and touched a $600.000 427 Cobra.

Dom

Sometimes I wish I had another hobby, or at least passion for another car.

C'mon, even Evan doesn't tell people what these cars cost, or what they're worth, nor does he delve in to the subjective versus objective theory of Cobra valuation.

RodKnock -- I think you should post the video, anonymously of course. Better yet, make it look like ERA Chas. did it.http://www.capitalareacobraclub.com/...tive1/evil.gif

I'll repeat myself.
Pat, you have too much time on your hands. Now I know how someone can get 8500+ posts in 4 years.
Also, nice portrait of you on the last line.;)

patrickt 07-21-2009 08:45 AM

Actually...

I have a staff of obsequious minions that tirelessly use my CC account to post humorous, insightful (and occasionally incite-ful) banter.... ;)

REAL 1 07-21-2009 09:15 AM

Whatsa: The folklore is the old $1.00 for the name bit. The reality I'm sure is more involved.

No, I don't get into values. Anything is worth what you can get. The cost of the actual parts on any of these cars doesn't put them that far apart in many cases except when you are talking aluminum body and original spec components.

What separates these cars in value is the intrinsic value we place in them based on where they came from, where they were manufactured, original spec or mustang components etc.. As far as the originals go, part for part many cars such as ERAs, Kirkhams, New Shelbys are built better and are better cars. As someone I know who has an original 427 street car and still does once remarked about the chasis tubing that he's seen better tubing on lawn furniture. But who wouldn't rather have an original?

This may all change one day. None of us know what tomorrow brings. For all we know, fiberglass becomes the in thing and people have to have Mustang suspension. FFRs now just passed originals in value. This is a hypothetical, repeat this is a hypothetical and a wild one at that. But point is values change based on many factors some out of of our control.

Hell, if our Messiah and all the libs get their way all these cars could be MANDATED into the clunkers for cash program. Don't laugh. They are already on the way to telling you how high and how low you can put your thermostat.

Continuations original? No. Real Cobras? Yes. Absolutely. Value? today X tomorrow maybe Y. That goes for originals too.

I can't believe Patrick let this one sail by without comment. He must be sick today.
