CSX 2473 in wreck (catches some air) at PIR
Well, I was in the right place and 2473 was in the wrong place. I had a press pass and was down on turn one off of the straight on the inside of the corner and caught a few unfortunate pictures. He made it around a couple more laps but retired early.

Them dang ol Corvettes should know thier role and get out of the way....lol
That's an L88 (no slouch there). What's with the stock cars on track at the same time/race? These guys weigh about 3600 lbs. If one of them hit a sports car at speed it would be brutal.
maybe that cobra was just horny,
Good job on getting the pics, you kept shooting instead of stopping to gawk.
Ouch!
Looks like everyone was safe though....That is the good news. :) |
Quote:
Brent, did you get any after-the-orgasm pics of the carnage? |
Added some pics above.
Amazing pics, buddy...y'all sure do have some major corner strips there.

Jamo, they sure did seem rather pronounced. |
Is that the car that sold for a millon plus with the Rolling Stones sticker on the back?
yup.......
Was he under braking or trying to go on the inside of the Vette ? Either way, not a good move.
Brent- Question about the 98 car. What serial number is it ? The rear wheel wells look to be messaged a bit with flairs ? Any information will be appreciated. |
This is turn one off of a relatively long straight at high speed. They were all on the brakes hard and I'm not sure if it was a move to the inside for position or a move to attempt to avoid a late brake mess or what. I'm speculating that it was the latter given how far inside he was in the first frame - pure speculation though.
looking at the first photo, maybe it's my eyes but the angle of the wheel sort of looks turned in extra sharp at that moment, like he was trying to avoid contact.
That's the way we raced in the mid-60's and had a body man on our race team. Of course, back then 427 Comp was about $10,000 and first place bragging rights were worth more than that.
Great pictures Brent. To bad about the Cobra, but at least no one was hurt and it could have been much worse.
Ron :) |
Okay I'll ask.... What about the Vette guy? Was he pissed or anything?
Not sure if the Vette guy was pissed or not. He got a big chunk of fiberglass broken out of the body though, spun around and the Cobra kept going. :)
