CSX 2473 in wreck (catches some air) at PIR

Well, I was in the right place and 2473 was in the wrong place. I had a press pass and was down on turn one off of the straight on the inside of the corner and caught a few unfortunate pictures. He made it around a couple more laps but retired early.

Them dang ol Corvettes should know thier role and get out of the way....lol

ZOERA-SC7XX 07-11-2009 07:49 PM

That's an L88 (no slouch there). What's with the stock cars on track at the same time/race? These guys weigh about 3600 lbs. If one of them hit a sports car at speed it would be brutal.

mr bruce 07-11-2009 08:07 PM

maybe that cobra was just horny,

lineslinger 07-11-2009 08:11 PM

Good job on getting the pics, you kept shooting instead of stopping to gawk.

1985 CCX 07-11-2009 08:37 PM

Ouch!

Looks like everyone was safe though....That is the good news. :)

Great pic. So if the Cobra breeds the Vette, what do we get?

Brent, did you get any after-the-orgasm pics of the carnage?

Brent Mills 07-11-2009 09:46 PM

Added some pics above.

Jamo 07-11-2009 10:11 PM

Amazing pics, buddy...y'all sure do have some major corner strips there.

Interestingly, I was talking to a gentlman who had staged the Cobra for the race and he said they moved into this group because they were killing the Porsche's and other cars they were classed in, which didn't make any sense to me anyways. I wasn't very interesting in the big bore class because it was mostly Corvettes and other stuff you see there, but decided to go out on the track and take pics because 2473 moved into the group. Dumb luck on my part to be at the right place.

Jamo, they sure did seem rather pronounced.

Is that the car that sold for a millon plus with the Rolling Stones sticker on the back?

computerworks 07-11-2009 10:42 PM

yup.......

Brent Mills 07-11-2009 10:49 PM

FUNFER2 07-11-2009 10:59 PM

Was he under braking or trying to go on the inside of the Vette ? Either way, not a good move.

Brent- Question about the 98 car. What serial number is it ?
The rear wheel wells look to be messaged a bit with flairs ?
Any information will be appreciated.

Brent Mills 07-11-2009 11:03 PM

This is turn one off of a relatively long straight at high speed. They were all on the brakes hard and I'm not sure if it was a move to the inside for position or a move to attempt to avoid a late brake mess or what. I'm speculating that it was the latter given how far inside he was in the first frame - pure speculation though.

decooney 07-11-2009 11:23 PM

looking at the first photo, maybe it's my eyes but the angle of the wheel sort of looks turned in extra sharp at that moment, like he was trying to avoid contact.

SS COBRA 07-12-2009 03:53 AM

That's the way we raced in the mid-60's and had a body man on our race team. Of course, back then 427 Comp was about $10,000 and first place bragging rights were worth more than that.

Ron61 07-12-2009 06:27 AM

Great pictures Brent. To bad about the Cobra, but at least no one was hurt and it could have been much worse.

Ron :)

Power Surge 07-12-2009 08:41 AM

Okay I'll ask.... What about the Vette guy? Was he pissed or anything?

Brent Mills 07-12-2009 09:03 AM

Not sure if the Vette guy was pissed or not. He got a big chunk of fiberglass broken out of the body though, spun around and the Cobra kept going. :)
