I've had some real nasty disagreements with Racer X who doesn't post here as much any more. But there is one subject we do agree on. Street racing is for idiots for many reasons. Nothing good can come from it. Disaster is the only tangible byproduct.
Check your insurance policies. Most have a disclaimer/exclusion for street racing. Accident while street racing.? Sorry Charlie. Likely no coverage, property damage or liability. Talk about losing sleep.
Injuries from street racing? Not only do you lose your liability coverage you very well may be looking at an indictment for a range of charges depending on seriousness. Hows assault by auto if there are injuries or vehicular manslaughter if there is loss of life grab you??
Be smart, just look indignant and say no.
Last time I had a ricer kid want to race me I was in my Carrera at a light. It was some Mitsubishi whatever, probably with NOS. He kept reving his engine at the light. I put my window down and he put his down. I said "Don't you have homework to do or something. Grow up". and just slowly pulled away.
Be smart. Keep the "racing" for the track or autocrosses.

Hey Real,
Street racing or just going for groceries exposes you to this litigious world of ours. Your right about asking for possible grief if you do race. I think smart ass remarks to a stranger at some light is more dangerous though. The money involved/invested in some of these cars by a 20 year old screams (freelance pharmaceutical distribution manager) and many don't respond to criticism well. I agree just shaking your head no thanks is not as much fun.

Vettestr: There is risk in everything we do. You could slip and fall and kill you self stepping out of the shower.
There is risk and there is begging for trouble without a parachute.
I see a big difference.
The remark was made to what clearly appeared to be a highschool kid in what appeared to be a low budget Mitsu with NOS. But I agree sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.
